Written by eKartingNews.com

Simply put, the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals has just stepped to the next level. SKUSA CEO Tom Kutscher is thrilled to confirm to the North American karting community that seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher has officially entered the upcoming SuperNationals at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The former Ferrari F1 driver will compete in the SuperPro category against the top 125cc drivers from North America and the world, running with the factory Tony Kart team aboard a Vortex-powered Racer EVR. Schumacher’s participation will certainly explode the global interest in the annual event, which was already closing in on selling out the paddock.

“Having Michael on the grid for his year’s SuperNationals is such an exciting addition for everyone on the SKUSA staff,” offered Kutscher. “The simple fact that that he contacted us to be part of the race is huge! We’ve had the opportunity to watch some big name drivers run with us in the past, but there is no comparison with Michael. He’s widely considered the finest driver in the history of the sport and it will be an honor to have him take the green in Las Vegas. This is going to fire this year’s race up to a whole new level!”

Jim Russell Racing Drivers School Partners with SKUSA SuperNationals XIII
Wednesday, 04 November 2009 15:40
The Jim Russell Racing Drivers School has formally announced a partnership with Superkarts! USA to award two scholarships for the ‘Future Driver 2010 Selection’ to two lucky SuperNationals XIII drivers. A panel of three scouts will select a driver from each the S3 and TaG Senior fields to receive a direct bid to the Future Driver Selection, held at Infineon Raceway December 19-22, a value of $7995 each.

The Jim Russell Future Driver Selection is an international initiative created this year to find the best young talent from the worlds of karting and ‘junior’ formula car racing. It is designed to be a merit-based competition that rewards the two best young drivers with a fully-funded season of racing in the 2010 Jim Russell Championship Series (JRCS). From there the competitors will find themselves battling it out for the JRCS Prize Package, a fully-funded season in the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship.

"As the premier karting event in the USA, SuperNats is the ideal venue to observe and select drivers for our Future Driver program and compliments our ladder system which is comprehensive from karting through Formula 1” explained Chip Pankow, President, Jim Russell Racing Drivers School.

F1’s Buemi and Alguersuari Confirmed for SKUSA SuperNationals in SuperPro
Wednesday, 21 October 2009 07:14
eKartingNews.com has learned from Superkarts! USA that Formula One drivers Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari are confirmed entries for the upcoming SKUSA SuperNationals XIII at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas - November 18-22. The Scuderia Toro Rosso drivers will compete in the SuperPro (KZ2) division, representing Italian kart manufacturer Intrepid.

“It is certainly great to have two current Formula One drivers make the trip over to the SuperNationals,” commented SKUSA CEO Tom Kutscher from his home office. “It certainly speaks volumes for the event itself when it can attract current international karters and former world champions, along with NASCAR, IndyCar, and now Formula One drivers. I have heard that a few more F1 drivers are rumored to be making the trip as well, but are not yet confirmed.”

Buemi hails from Switzerland and is currently completing his first season in Formula One. After earning numerous Swiss Karting titles, Buemi’s highest achievement in karting came via European Junior Intercontinental A Championship in 2002 aboard a CRG. Two years later, the soon-to-be 21-year old (October 31) began his progression up the formula car ranks in Europe before landing the test/reserve driving position for Red Bull in 2008.

Alguersuari recently made a return to karting having competed at the KZ1 World Cup in Sarno, Italy during an off-weekend from Formula One. The 19-year old competed in the upper level of European karting for three years - two as a Junior before becoming an official member of the Intrepid factory team competing once in the Senior ranks.

SKUSA Hawaii Region Set to Debut This Weekend
Friday, 06 June 2008 00:07
After completing an agreement to become the latest region for the Superkarts! USA organization, the SKUSA Hawaii series is set to kick off the first of seven events for the Maui Kart Challenge this weekend at the Maui Motorsports Park - Puunene Kart Track. As the first SKUSA regional program outside the continental 48 states, the Maui Kart Challenge has spent the past month preparing for the opening event on June 7, to be held under the lights, in hopes of building the karting community on the Hawaiian Islands.

The Maui GoKart Association will be behind the running of the Maui Kart Challenge. The organization is currently in a rebuilding stage as the sport of karting has come and gone on the island over the past 20 years. The Puuene Kart Track – where all seven races will be held this season – is a half-mile course with two long straights, boasting nine turns equipped with CIK-style curbing and a full lighting system for night racing. The Maui Kart Challenge will offer the basic SKUSA class structure for their shifters with S1, G1, S3, S4, S5 Jr, and K1 (for the 80cc Shifters), and then TaG Juniors, Seniors and Masters for the TaG racers. Local option classes will be run as well during the weekend.

“I’d really like to thank Tom Kutscher and SKUSA for being involved with our program and creating the SKUSA Hawaii region,” stated Art Gumpfer of the Maui Kart Challenge. “With this new partnership, we hope to bring karting to many racers on the Hawaiian Islands with a respectable program that they can be proud of. I’d also like to thank Tony Kart Florida, Fastech Racing, Gumpfer Motorsports, Pacific Rim Productions, and American Standard Concrete Pumping for their support of the new program.”

Practice will begin at 8:00 am and run all day to prepare for qualifying at 5:00 pm before getting into the racing action. A new website has been produced - http://www.mauikartingclub.com - and will be updated throughout the year with all the Maui Kart Challenge information. For more details regarding the Maui Kart Challenge, contact Art Gumpfer at 808-216-3514 or the karting office at 808-873-8363.
