Superkarts! USA SummerNationals Countdown Begins
Thursday, 02 July 2015 11:16

As the calendar flips yet another page into the month of July, the countdown is now on for the second round of the Superkarts! USA Fikse Wheels Pro Tour. The sixth annual SKUSA SummerNationals will take place in just 22 days, as over 200 of the finest drivers in the country are expected to descend on New Castle Motorsports Park for the July 24-26 weekend event. Registration has been open for just two weeks, and classes are already filling up and SKUSA is now on to its third host hotel. The race has the potential to be the largest Pro Tour event in the history of the series, as SKUSA heads east of the Mississippi for the first time since the debut season in 2010.

In keeping with the tremendous excitement that surrounded the announcement that SKUSA would bring this year’s SummerNationals to New Castle, entries continue to pour in fast and furious. Not surprisingly, TaG Cadet has already topped 40 drivers and will likely hit the cap of 44 shortly, so if your driver is in the championship hunt, he or she should get entered as soon as possible. The number of new racers from the East Coast in all classes is exciting and will inject many new faces into the mix for race wins. The TaG Senior class was a monster in Phoenix, and a number of drivers have already entered to make their 2015 Fikse Wheels Pro Tour debut. Drivers can get registered at www.skusastore.com before the Sunday, July 19 pre-registration cut-off date, along with ordering their practice tires and fuel ahead of time.

The SummerNationals date coincides with the running of the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and while the New Castle facility is 40 minutes east of the city, hotel rooms are at a premium. SKUSA has been able to book blocks of rooms at three hotels so far and the first two have sold out. The newest SKUSA hotel is the Quality Inn & Suites Greenfield. Be sure to call 317-462-7112 and ask for the ‘SKUSA’ room block for the $99+tax per night room rate. The block closes TODAY, July 2.

Pit spot reservations are required thru Superkarts! USA for the SummerNationals event. Information regarding rental tents, camping, catering, and the pit map is available HERE. For the first time in the history of the Pro Tour, the track will be open for practice on Thursday during ‘NCMP-organized’ sessions from 2pm to 8pm. Complete information about the venue, weekend schedule, and other details can be found on the SKUSA SummerNationals Event Page.

Superkarts! USA will present more than $15,000 in cash and prizes at the SummerNationals, including the purse money for S1 Pro Stock Moto and TaG Senior, and for the classes that garner 30 or more entries. The total payout in Phoenix was over $12,000 just in cash, as S2 and TaG Cadet ran for the additional $1000 in prize money. As part of this prize package, IAME USA is awarding $500 in IAME Bucks to the top-three overall in all four TaG classes at New Castle. The top step of Fikse Wheels podium will be the place to be following the events, as the winner of each main event will also receive a set of MG tires.

The Greenlight TV cameras will once again be placed around the track and working through the paddock to film the event for the CBS Sports Network broadcasts. The feedback from the initial broadcasts has been tremendous from both the karting community and from CBSSN itself, as the viewer numbers were extremely positive. This project is in constant evolution, and SKUSA will try a different approach to the SummerNationals shows, focusing more closely on a total of six classes for the SummerNationals broadcast. All four TaG classes will be featured in one of the two shows (TaG Cadet, Junior, Senior and Master), as will the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto and S4 Master Stock Moto categories. The action-packed three-class combinations have yet to be determined. S1 and S5 will be included in the wrap-up highlight segment of both broadcasts. These shows are scheduled to be aired on the CBS Sports Network in mid-August. The shows taped from last year’s SKUSA SuperNationals and this April’s SpringNationals are now all available on MotorTrendOnDemand.com.

The sixth annual SummerNationals promises to be an incredible experience filled with on-track action and the excitement of a national event filling the paddock. The Indy Dental Group is partnering with Superkarts! USA to present the traditional Friday night BBQ to welcome everyone to the race, and SKUSA would like to take this opportunity to thank all of their class sponsors, as well:

S1 Pro Stock Moto – PSL Karting
S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto – Texas ProKart Challenge
S4 Master Stock Moto – Pure Karting
S5 Junior Stock Moto- Ryan Perry Motorsport
TaG Cadet – Top Kart USA
TaG Junior – Leading Edge Motorsport
TaG Senior – Nash Motorsportz
TaG Master – Phil Giebler Racing

As has been the case since the series debut in 2010, SKUSA is again working with Rob Howden and David Cole of eKartingNews.com to provide live audio coverage of the SummerNationals all weekend long. EKN will provide their Trackside Live coverage that will include live streaming play-by-play of qualifying, heat race action and the main events, in addition to daily written reports and their EKN Daily Wrap video segment, and instantaneous session results through Facebook and Twitter. Those unable to attend the event in New Castle can listen in and experience live timing provided by Race-Monitor.com, as well as take part in a forum discussion on the event, all at ekartingnews.com/live. Viewers on the move can listen in on mobile devices as well through the same URL link. Todd McCall from On Track Promotions will once again be on-site to provide professional race photography of the event.
