2010 PKC Rain Tire Rule
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 18:42
The official rain tires for 2010 PKC NorCal and SoCal events will be Bridgestone YJP or YKP; no other rain tire may be used.  These tires were chosen due to wide use and availability.  If such tires are used during a competition session they will be marked by the technical officials at the end of the session and will be the only set of rain tires the competitor may use.  Note that either new or previously used rain tires may be utilized.

Kal-Gard Grand Prix to Launch New ProKart Challenge South Season
Friday, 15 January 2010 12:41
Now entering its sixth season, the ProKart Challenge South program will kick off the 2010 Superkarts! USA regional racing schedule at the end of the month with the running of the inaugural ‘Kal-Gard Grand Prix of Fontana’ at the CalSpeed Karting facility, located on the grounds of the Auto Club Speedway. The series will utilize the 3/4-mile Nuovo course at CalSpeed when the flagship regional program of the SKUSA organization visits the Fontana, California facility on January 29-30, beginning this year’s six-round calendar. This will be an important and exciting event, as the PKC crew pulls the cover off of SKUSA’s off-season updates, including a new spec oil supplier in Kal-Gard Lubricants.

This opening event will represent a re-launch of sorts for the Superkarts! USA program, as they will debut the new class structure that was developed during the off-season. With a focus on streamlining their Stock Moto program, SKUSA adjusted the name of its headline S3 class to S1 - Pro Stock Moto, which will now top a new lineup that includes five national Stock Moto categories running from the Junior Stock Moto class of S5 up through Master Stock Moto (S4), Rookie Stock Moto (S3) and Semi-Pro Stock Moto (S2). For the first time in recent years, there is a set road of progression within the Stock Moto ranks, which will be put on display at CalSpeed. Also offered for the second year in a row will be the local-option S4-Magnum Stock Moto class. The SKUSA staff is anticipating a strong turnout across the board, as the PKC faithful are ready to get back on-track for the first time since the SuperNationals.

2010 PKC Schedules and Class Structure
Wednesday, 02 December 2009 10:05
When the new year comes around the corner in January, Superkarts! USA will see the first two of their five regional series come back to life in California. The ProKart Challenge North and South programs will be the first to get back into the swing of things, and they will be greeted by a slightly evolved class structure that will better support the organization’s Stock Moto program. In this communication, we will announce the 2010 schedules for both the PKC North and South series, as well as present the class structure that will run with each series. The class line-up will also be supported by the debut of SKUSA’s new licensing system, which will provide better driver positioning heading into the future.

The ProKart Challenge South series will be the first to get back to business, launching the 2010 campaign at CalSpeed Karting on January 29-30. Subsequent events will take the teams to an additional six venues, including Willow Springs, Grange, Buttonwillow Raceway and Santa Maria. The following is the six-race ProKart South schedule for 2010:

2010 Pro Kart Challenge South Schedule
Round 1 – January 29-30 – CalSpeed Karting
Round 2 – February 26-27 – Willow Springs Kart Track
Round 3 – March 26-27 – Grange Motor Circuit
Round 4 – May 14-15 – Streets of Willow (joint race with Gatorz)
Round 5 – June 25-26 – Buttonwillow Raceway
Round 6 – August 13-14 – Santa Maria (PKC West Coast Shootout)
Awards Banquet – Sept 25 – location TBA

The ProKart Challenge North program will again base its competition at the Jim Russell International Karting Center, which is located at the famed Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The drivers will make one trek south to the Central Coast region for the annual PKC West Coast Shootout at Santa Maria, which will pit the North and South drivers against each other in head-to-head competition. The following is the six-race ProKart North schedule for 2010:

2010 Pro Kart Challenge North Schedule
Round 1 – February 12-13 – Jim Russell Int’l Karting Center - Infineon Raceway
Round 2 – March 12-13 – Jim Russell Int’l Karting Center - Infineon Raceway
Round 3 – April 30 – May 1 – Jim Russell Int’l Karting Center - Infineon Raceway
Round 4 – June 11-12 – Jim Russell Int’l Karting Center - Infineon Raceway
Round 5 – August 13-14 – Santa Maria (PKC West Coast Shootout)
Round 6 – September 3-4 – Jim Russell Int’l Karting Center - Infineon Raceway
Awards Banquet – Oct 16 – location TBA

The beginning of the new year will also bring an evolution of the organization’s class structure, as well as the debut of a licensing program that will help manage the access that new drivers will have to the faster categories. The adjustments to the class structure are minimal, and are all designed to better present the Stock Moto classes into a graduated ladder system.

ProKart Challenge Programs Complete Season with Year-End Award Banquets
Wednesday, 28 October 2009 09:44
Following 13 events from January to September, the ProKart Challenge franchise honored its class champions in the last few weeks during the year-end award banquets. The ProKart Challenge South program held their awards ceremony at the Grand Event Center in Long Beach, California on October 3, while two weeks later the Tuscan Car Barn in Larkspur, California hosted the ProKart Challenge North extravaganza.

Nine different classes recognized the 2009 PKC South champions, with only one driver able to score two titles. Young Jacob Neal was honored as the S1 and S3 champion, where he won a total of nine feature races between the two divisions to clinch both titles by a solid margin. Neal was also honored as the PKC North champion in S3 – and was presented with a three-time championship jacket during the awards presentation.

“At the beginning of the year, I would have never thought I would have won three championships, let alone be racing Stock Moto,” commented Neal following the awards banquets. “This past year a lot has changed for me. My main class, S1, became a secondary class for me and S3 became our primary concern. S3 has done more for my career thus far than any other class I have ever raced, and I have not had this much fun racing since my days in Junior 1 Cadet. But the year was long and tiring running two classes; it took a lot out of me physically and mentally. We went on quite a winning spree from the beginning to the middle of the year but at the end we found ourselves still fighting for the championships. I am glad we were able to win the three championships, but I am disappointed to lose the fourth championship (PKC North S1) to Cody (Hodgson) – but congratulations to him.”
