EKN Awards 2008: Event of the Year - SKUSA SuperNationals XII
Friday, 20 February 2009 15:16
New to the eKartingNews.com Awards in 2008 is the ‘Event of the Year’ category. Like the EKN Awards program itself, this new honor has been re-kindled from the pages of Super Kart Illustrated as in the past, the magazine’s staff would list their selections of the top-10 events of the previous year. Now positioned as part of the EKN Awards, the site’s viewers submitted their favorite events and the top-five were then awarded a nomination. After long discussions among the website’s staff, the National Guard SKUSA SuperNationals XII has earned the honor of being named the inaugural winner of the award.

Considered by many as the biggest race in the history of the sport, the ’08 edition of the SKUSA SuperNationals had the prestige, the venue, star power and an unrivaled entry list that elevated the event to a brand new level. The 12th edition of the race was highlighted by a return to the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and a total entry count of roughly 400 competitors in 10 classes. A number of international drivers, mostly entered in the SuperPro category, made the journey to Vegas and a few of them took home the spoils in their respective classes. The TaG Senior category reached 100 entries alone, while the battle in the S3 main event may go down in history as the best shifter kart race ever run. The event was capped off with a Sunday event AfterParty celebration atop the Rio in the hotel’s VooDoo Lounge, which overlooks the Vegas strip.  Read Full Story on EKN.

ProKart Challenge South Revamps for Round Two at Willow Springs
Wednesday, 18 February 2009 23:06
One thing that can be said about the Superkarts! USA organization and its ProKart Challenge South program is the success of their open policy of feedback from their racers and teams. SKUSA President Tom Kutscher and his staff have always taken into consideration the needs of their racers, and the 2009 season will be no different. As the program prepares for the upcoming round at the Willow Springs Raceway kart track in Rosamond, CA on February 28, they have made some improvements to the program by adjusting the minimum weight in the S4 class and introducing the KF2 program to the series.

Following a driver weight survey held at the opening round at CalSpeed Karting on January 24, the ProKart Challenge has made the decision to raise the minimum weight in the S4 class from 405 lbs. back to its previous 415 lbs, and has even added an S4-Magnum class in the Southern region – with the minimum weight set at 440 lbs – which has already seen strong response to date. These changes will be implemented at the Willow Springs event and will be in place for the balance of the ‘09 PKC South season. ProKart Challenge also surveyed the PKC North competitors in the S4 class from ’08, and has made the same weight adjustment to 415 lbs. for that division.  Read Full Story on EKN.

S4 Driver Weight Goes Back to 415– And a 440lb S4 Class is Considered!
Tuesday, 03 February 2009 20:00
As you probably know, we conducted an S4 driver weight survey at our first ProKart Challenge CalSpeed race on Jan. 24th.

Based on those results (and feedback from potential S4 racers), we have decided that it would be in the best interest of fair competition to change the overall class weight for the S4 class back to the previous 415 lbs for the balance of the 2009 PKC So Cal season.

This change will be effective with our next race at Willow Kart on Feb. 28th, and will be reflected on our website shortly. We are also in the process of surveying the Nor Cal S4 drivers from last year, to be able to make a final decision on that region as well. If you have comments or questions regarding this change, we welcome your input! Please call our office at 951-491-0808 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We also wanted to let you know that based on feedback from the field, we are seeing demand for an even 'heavier' stock Honda class in our 2009 PKC So Cal lineup -- what Tom is calling a '440 Magnum' class, with a total minimum weight of 440 lbs.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in running this class, please let us know right away. If we get enough interest, we are willing to add it to our race schedule -- and the series championship.
