 There has been much talk on the forums and at the track regarding the unsubstantiated rumor that Superkarts! USA is attempting to ‘kill off the G1 class’. We have received many phone calls and e-mails from both members and non-members voicing their dissatisfaction regarding this rumor, and I believe that it is time to make a statement outlining our position on the matter.I would like to state officially that we are by no means trying to ‘kill off G1’. In fact, we are big fans of the ICC program and G1 in particular, as this is where I started my karting career. G1 is MY class and I still love it. On the regional level, G1 can be added to any program as a local option, as it is in the Pro Kart Challenge South series. As for our national program, we will need a larger confirmed contingent to warrant a spot in the weekend line-up. To be realistic, the numbers in the G1 class have been dropping at a slow and steady rate all across the country, following the direction of the KZ2 class, and we have felt this decrease in our Pro Kart Challenge program as well, to the point where we were forced to shelve the class from our PKC North series line-up when entries dropped to just two drivers. One competitor moved to TaG Master and the other shifted his focus to testing, the Pro Tour, the SuperNationals and other one-off races. Yes, there are active G1 drivers out there, but we’re just not seeing enough of them right now. We have offered, and will continue to offer, every opportunity for the G1 class to remain in our Pro Kart Challenge and Pro Tour programs. As stated in a recent press release, we will run the G1 class in the Pro Kart Challenge South series this year as long as there are drivers. As with any smaller class, the inclusion of trophies will be dictated by the number of entries, but if G1 drivers wish to come out to play, we’ll find a place for them. We’re dedicated to shifter kart racing and will provide a venue for as many gearbox racers as we can. That said, in regards to the 2011 SKUSA Pro Tour, we have our set line-up of Stock Moto and TaG classes. However, I will once again officially state that we will include the G1 class on the line-up if we receive commitments from at least 15 drivers before January 31. At that time, we will require that these committed participants pre-pay their entry fees for both the SpringNationals and SummerNationals. These entries will be non-refundable to reserve the position in the schedule. We have already asked via the SKUSA website and a distributed press release for e-mailed confirmation of participation from the current G1 contingent, and to this date, we have not yet received a single commitment from even one competitor. We have made the official offer to continue our support of G1, so now it is up to the racers. fake texas driver license There is a great deal of chatter on the EKN forums regarding this subject and we have heard the same argument via phone calls and e-mails. This criticism is unfounded, as the opportunity has been presented.
