Central States Challenge Gearing Up for Return to TNT Kartways
Thursday, 02 June 2011 23:00
Round two of the 2011 Superkarts! USA Central States Challenge (SCSC) season is just around the corner as the program returns to the historic TNT Kartways in West Quincy, Missouri. The June 11-12 event marks the last series race before the second round of the SKUSA Pro Tour - the SummerNationals - in Colorado with a number of SCSC regulars using the weekend in Quincy to prepare for that trip while also shaping the championship hunt for the regional titles.
Built in 1961, TNT Kartways is one of the oldest karting circuits in North America with a rich history of the sports legends competing on its grounds. Just across the bridge over the Mississippi River sits Quincy, Illinois, the city that was host to the famous Grand Prix of Karting in South Park. The current track at TNT is at 4/10-mile, providing a challenging circuit for competitors. Friday, June 10 will be an optional practice day for competitors with the official event practice starting Saturday morning. Qualifying and the Prefinal will take place Saturday afternoon with warm-up and the Main Events scheduled for Sunday.
“The TNT Kartways is one of the storied facilities our series will visit in 2011,” commented Pam Freund of the SKUSA Central States Challenge. “The people and competitors in Quincy are the grassroots of our sport and we will welcome anyone looking to get a sample of racing with the Central States Challenge. The first event of the season was great. We made some new friends and reacquainted with old ones. In addition to providing the best shifterkart and TaG racing here in the area, that is our purpose and goal.”
The series is coming off the opening round on May 14-15 as part of the Anderson Mayor’s Cup Grand Prix in Indiana. It was the program’s first visit to the temporary circuit event, hosted by the Anderson Sertoma Club and in conjunction with the Great Lakes Pro Series. Despite battling wet weather conditions, the event came off as a great success for all those involved with the SCSC gaining a number of new competitors to the program.
For the TNT Kartways weekend, the series is offering a lower entry fee for Local Option classes to welcome racers of any type of karting class to be part of the event for just $40 (does not include pit pass). Another change will be a reduced fee for the TaG Cadet division, now just $45 per round. Looking for the best spy app for mobile phone? “TNT Kartways and other tracks we visit have several classes that just do not fit our SKUSA class structure,” continued Freund. “That however should not restrict racers from coming out to experience a fun-filled weekend with the regular Central States Challenge racers. We have had several people contacting us for information on the Quincy event, so we expect the weekend to be a successful one.”
The SKUSA Central States Challenge is part of the new Mazda Road to Indy Scouting Combine program. The series is part of a regional karting ‘grassroots’ partnership and will be sending one driver to the Andersen Race Park in Palmetto, Florida on November 28-30, where drivers will be given the opportunity to test a USF2000 car.
