EKN Trackside: 2018 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour – WinterNationals Preview – Part 2
Thursday, 01 March 2018 12:00

The 2017 championship chase in X30 Senior went down to the wire, and was the closets finish in SKUSA Pro Tour history for the category. Looking at the returning drivers and contenders for 2018, it could be just as competitive for the SKUSA crown. The king on the throne for the past two seasons as been Florida driver Ryan Norberg. A privateer in 2016 that won three main events used consistent finishes last year to remain as the champion in 2017, helping him to also earn the EKN Driver of the Year honor. The SKUSA #1 still remains on the side of his Birel ART machine into the new season, still holding the bulls-eye as the driver to beat.

SKUSA #2 and #3 Jake Craig and Brandon Jarsocrak are returning. Craig (Tony Kart), the 2014 champion, came four points short of a second title, losing out to Norberg. The California driver returns having shown well as the eKartingNews.com representative at the Mazda Road to Indy Scholarship Shootout. Jarsocrak is entering a new era. Still with KartSport North America, the ‘Shillington Slingshot’ has moved over to the Kart Republic brand. Jarsocrak won in his debut on the chassis at the SKUSA Winter Series, and the brand won the championship with Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Trackside: 2018 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour – WinterNationals Preview – Part 1
Thursday, 01 March 2018 11:58

The field in the S1 Pro Stock Honda category is only at 14 drivers, but year after year the competition level seems to increase. This season is a great mix of returning stars and graduating S2 drivers. Of course, the SKUSA #1 plate is the ultimate goal. The bulls-eye is 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake French (Sodikart). The Texan has a string of podium finishes dating back to 2016 SummerNationals, helping him to earn the title in 2017. The 2017 eKartingNews.com Driver of the Year scored his first Pro Tour victory at the WinterNationals last year, gearing to begin the title defense with another victory or two. Chasing him was Billy Musgrave. The Aluminos driver ended 2017 on a high note, winning at the SuperNationals. A race winner on the SKUSA Pro Tour for the past three years, Musgrave is aiming to finish the year with the SKUSA #1 plate. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

Superkarts! USA Crowns Inaugural Winter Series Champions

The 2018 season is one of expansion for Superkarts! USA, with the California-based organization reaching across the entire country in a return to its roots. Florida was the beginning grounds for the vision of SKUSA with former owner Don Janowski. Now SKUSA owner/CEO Tom Kutscher was able to rekindle the presence of the organization with the launch of the SKUSA Winter Series. What began with the inaugural event at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires in January, completed with the final two rounds of competition at the Ocala Gran Prix in February.

The prize package was solid for all categories, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy more racing throughout the 2018 season. The IAME divisions, except for Micro Swift, competed for the grand prize of a ticket to compete at the IAME International Final in Le Mans, France. A unique opportunity was given throughout all of the championships, with drivers able to select their prizes in order of their finishing position. Champions in IAME and Stock Honda categories were given the opportunity to select their prize, including a full season of racing at the SKUSA Pro Tour, free entry to SKUSA SuperNationals 22, or a free season at the California ProKart Challenge. The champions in the X30 Senior and S1 classes were also provided a set of Fittipaldi Wheels. Formula One and IndyCar champion Emerson Fittipaldi was on hand in Ocala to provide both champions with their prize.

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Winter Series – Ocala Weekend Report

The Ocala Gran Prix circuit played host to the final round of the Superkarts! USA Winter Series over the weekend and crowned the program’s inaugural champion following Sunday’s action on the 0.6-mile, eight-turn circuit in Florida. The new Kart Republic operation earned its first championship after debuting at last November’s SuperNationals, thanks to an impressive four-round combined performance from Lorenzo Travisanutto. The 18-year-old Italian topped the 34-kart X30 Senior category on Saturday, sweeping the day, and then added a third on Sunday to secure the class championship. Fellow Kart Republic driver Brandon Jarsocrak made his debut on the chassis this weekend for KartSport North America and completed the sweep of the mains for KR, winning on Sunday. Musgrave Racing Company’s Billy Musgrave (Aluminos) was the only S1 Pro Stock Honda driver to compete in both weekends, which automatically gave him the title, while Rory van der Steur (FA) topped the combined Stock Honda field on Sunday to win the day and the class championship in the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Honda category. The X30 Junior battle was hard-fought, bordering on reckless at times, and when the dust had settled, Team Montoya’s Sebastian Montoya (TonyK art) used a pair of podium finishes to win the title. EKN Trackside: 2018 SKUSA Winter Series – Ocala Gran Prix Preview
Saturday, 10 February 2018 07:41

Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto looks to steal the Winter Series championship (Photo: otp.ca)

Superkarts! USA launched the Winter Series last month in Homestead, Florida with over 200 drivers in attendance. The four-round championship chase concludes this weekend as the program heads north to the Ocala Gran Prix in central Florida. The numbers may be a bit lower than last month, however, the X30 Junior category was sold out prior to arriving in Ocala, showing the continued growth of the IAME program under the SKUSA banner.

The series heads to the unique Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida. The circuit is among the smallest on the national level, just 6/10 of a mile with eight distinct corners. Facility owner Jorge Arellano has been a big player in North American karting industry, bringing a number of high-profile events to the Ocala circuit. The local program at Ocala and the OGP race team have helped to produce some of the top karters in the last decade. While the circuit may be smaller, the action will be intense throughout the weekend.

eKartingNews.com is going to be Trackside for the finale weekend of the SKUSA Winter Series. EKN’s own Rob Howden will be on the mic as the longtime SKUSA announcer, with all the sessions on Saturday and Sunday to be broadcasted at www.ekartingnews.com/live – presented by CRG Nordam, Nitro Kart and TB Kart USA. Be sure to follow the EKN Social Media channels for images, videos and much more throughout the entire weekend in Ocala. Read full story on eKartingNews.com.
