Tuesday, 14 October 2014 13:35

In just five weeks time, the sound of kart engines humming, the smell of race fuel, and the amazing view of the Las Vegas Strip will provide the incredible atmosphere for those attending at Superkarts! USA’s SuperNationals XVIII. The world’s largest karting event will take place just outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for the ninth time, welcoming drivers from all across the globe. In total, nine main events will take place on SuperSunday to decide this year’s event winners and the 2014 SKUSA Pro Tour champions.

SKUSA Superkarts! USA logo“My task list is definitely focused on nothing but the SuperNationals for the next 30 days,” commented SKUSA’s CEO Tom Kutscher. “It has been a busy 2014 season, and I am really looking forward to the excitement that the SuperNationals brings. I love watching the best drivers from all over the world come to Las Vegas and put on a phenomenal show, no matter what the class. We will again have $10,000 checks up for grabs in our three headline categories, and many more prizes that will be announced before the race week begins. This year may not be the biggest because we’re running just nine classes, but it’s going to be the best yet.”

The 10th season of the California ProKart Challenge concluded at the end of September, celebrating one of its best seasons to date. The flagship Superkarts! Over 230 racers took part in this year’s championship series from all along the western half of North America, including pilots from as far as Texas and North Carolina. EKN Trackside: 2014 Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix – Sunday Report
Tuesday, 30 September 2014 08:24

It was an amazing day in the city of Lancaster on Sunday, as the California ProKart Challenge wrapped up the 2014 season at the sixth annual Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. The southern California city welcomed over 100 racers for what is a three-day festival on the Boulevard. The Superkarts! USA racers on hand put on a show for the hundreds of spectators, making the main events Sunday afternoon a memorable one for those on and off the track.

TaG Senior
Hometown driver Brendan Baker (Tony Kart) set the tone in the final heat race, leading all 10 laps to score the pole position for the main event. Four drivers made up the lead group, with Andrick Zeen (Praga), Nathan Seegrist (Tony Kart) and Chris Cricca (ART GP). The fight was for second, with Cricca holding the spot and then Zeen, but it was Seegrist scoring the position. Zeen ended up third with Cricca back to fourth. Kyle Hayner (Birel) won the fifth spot over Austin Elliott (Kosmic).

It was three early on in the 20-lap main event, with Baker, Zeen, and Seegrist as Cricca fell back. The defending race winner closed back in as the trio shuffled for the top spot. Cricca began moving forward with Zeen helping, mixing up the group to take a turn at the point. By lap seven, Cricca was into the lead. After the halfway point, the shuffling continued with Baker and Seegrist getting a taste of the lead. Cricca eventually took over the position, and gapped the group. The fight for second heated up, as they did not stay in line to reel in Cricca. That allowed Stepanova Nekeel (Vemme) to close in and join the fight. Nekeel had worked his way into third, and tried for the second spot on lap 19, but slid too far at turn five, going off into the barriers and out of the race. Baker retired just before that, losing the brakes on his machine and went into the barriers as well. Out front Cricca drove away to his second straight Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix victory by four-seconds. Zeen secured the second spot over Seegrist with Elliott fourth and Josh Sarchet (ART GP) fifth.

Elliott, recovering from a major crash in Modesto, was honored after the podium ceremonies by the city of Lancaster. The NorCal pilot was name the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix Driver Scholarship winner, earning a $12,000 program to promote the event as a competitor at the California ProKart Challenge and SKUSA Pro Tour in 2015.  Read full story on eKartingnews.com
