EKN Exclusive: Sneak Peak into Inaugural Modesto Grand Prix
Wednesday, 29 January 2014 16:23

Thanks to the growth of current events and the debut of another, the 2014 national karting season is expected to surpass what was already a historic season of racing last year. One of the events that are sure to take the sport to another level is the Modesto Grand Prix, the site of the fifth annual Superkarts! USA SummerNationals. The Northern California city has partnered with the popular karting organization to host a three-day street race right in the heart of the city during the first weekend of August. Just after the New Year, the City of Modesto and Superkarts! USA hosted a press launch to introduce the citizens, then local media and city officials to the early plans for the race and the sport of karting, to be specific.

The City of Modesto is located about 90 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento, in Northern California. Over 200,000 people call the Central Valley city home. The famed Modesto Arch is the city’s historical icon, which has featured the motto, ‘Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health’ since its construction in 1912. Famous filmmaker George Lucas is a native of Modesto. His popular film – American Graffiti – was filmed in Modesto, and is celebrated through numerous events that are held during the summer months, festivals that bring thousands of car fanatics into the area.

The Superkarts! USA California ProKart Challenge is primed to launch its 2014 campaign January 31-February 1 at ButtonwillowRacewayPark. The California PKC has been the foundation of the SKUSA regional program, proven to be one of the best regional options for California racers over the last nine years. Drivers and teams who race with the California PKC get the most bang for their buck week in and week out, as the program provides a competitively-priced race weekend experience along with the best wheel-to-wheel racing. The California PKC kicks off what will be its 10th season with a very packed paddock expected to fill up the Buttonwillow, California facility.

SKUSA Superkarts! USA logoHistorically, the opening weekend of the California PKC has been one of the highest attended events on their schedule, as last year’s first round boasted 150 entries. This year, the season opener is on pace to easily match that record. The stage is set for season-long championship battles in Buttonwillow, and racers will finally get back to what they love to do, racing. Plenty of teams and drivers have already taken advantage of SKUSA’s pre-entry program – with a deadline set for January 29 at midnight — ensuring pre-entry pricing as well as entry into classes that may have to be capped.

Superkarts! USA is happy to put the final piece in the puzzle that is the 2014 SKUSA Pro Tour. The opening two rounds of the series – scheduled for May 2-4 – will take teams and drivers to the Dallas Karting Complex (DKC) in Caddo Mills, Texas. Located just 45 minutes away from downtown Dallas, the DKC facility will host the first visit to the LoneStarState for the SKUSA Pro Tour.

2014 SKUSA Pro Tour logo“We’re excited to be taking the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour further east this year,” stated SKUSA President Tom Kutscher. “The group at Dallas Karting Complex is set to welcome our program and all of our SKUSA racers at the beginning of May to host one of the biggest karting events of the year. Karting in Texas has a long history, and the location in the middle of the country provides a great opportunity for racers from both coasts to meet together and battle for a SpringNationals victory.”
