ProKart Challenge North Returns to Action in Sonoma on June 11-12
Thursday, 03 June 2010 08:22
After a six-week break, the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge North is set to return to action on June 11-12 at the Jim Russell International Karting Center. The event will be the fourth round of the six-race championship with the fourth different track configuration layout, utilizing the same ‘reverse national’ layout that was used in April for the SKUSA SpringNationals. Nine categories will do battle on the track with the championship battles heating up.

The headline S1 Pro Stock Moto category has seen three different winners – but the same name at the top of the standings since the first green flag. SKUSA Pro Tour championship leader Fritz Leesmann holds the advantage in the PKC North standings, thanks to his victory in round one and runner-up last month. Round two winner Nic LeDuc has shown great potency in his first year aboard a shifterkart, and holds the challenger role with veteran Brett Buckwalter and young-gun Tommy Thompson in pursuit. The fight in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto remains close, as Matt Alcorn currently holds the top spot. Jared Woolf and Neil Joseph sit in the wings, waiting to overtake Alcorn. Both Alcorn and Joseph have a feature win to their credit, while Woolf is striving to claim his first trip to the top of the podium for the year.

Registration Opens June 1 for 14th Annual SKUSA SuperNationals
Friday, 28 May 2010 07:37
If you ask anyone who attended last year’s Superkarts! USA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, they will tell you that it was very likely the greatest karting event in the history of the sport here in America. The professionalism of the SKUSA staff and the cool factor of the venue, coupled with an extremely high level of competition that was multiplied exponentially by the participation of F1 hero Michael Schumacher, made sure that the race reached new heights. With that incredible event in the history books, SKUSA officials are now focused on topping last year’s race with some calculated improvements and upgrades, all aimed at making it an even more enjoyable experience for the organization’s competitors. The race to the SKUSA SuperNationals podiums will get the green flag early next week, when they open up online registration for the 14th edition of the annual event.

There were many competitors who missed out on the chance to participate in the ’09 edition by failing to enter early enough, and SKUSA is expecting to see many of the classes fill up quickly, just as they did last fall. The online registration at http://www.superkartsusa.com will go live for the SuperNationals at midnight on Monday, May 31, allowing racers to guarantee their position in the qualifying line-up when the race gets underway at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino on November 17. SKUSA is once again working on the participation of some major professional drivers, but nothing can be announced at this time. Drivers like Dan Wheldon and Raphael Matos are expected to return, and thanks to the attendance of Schumacher, Sebastien Buemi and Nelson Piquet Jr. in ’09, the SKUSA SuperNationals is certainly on the ‘A list’ of motorsports events.

Johnson and Batt Split Central States Challenge Double Opener at New Castle
Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:47
The 2010 season got underway for the Superkarts! USA Central States Challenge (SCSC) regional program. Rounds one and two were contested over the weekend at the New Castle Motorsports Park - one of the leading facilities in the United States. The weekend brought together over 100 entries total for the two days with goal of great racing and good times accomplished for the traveling series.

New for 2010 was the format of the race structure to fall in line with the Superkarts! USA format while giving racers more track time in return. The Qualifying, Heat 1, Heat 2, Feature format was implemented to the delight of the racers in attendance. On track, a number of drivers used the new structure to gain maximum points toward the year-end championship, sweeping the day with a couple drivers sweeping the weekend.

The most competitive class of the weekend was the new S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto. The action was close from the first official qualifying session as the top two were separated by just 94-thousandths of a second. Local driver Evan Batt edged out former series champion Derek Crockett, posting a 53.838-lap on the short 0.8-km course utilized for the weekend. Crockett grabbed the holeshot to lead the first three laps of the first heat before Batt retook the spot and earned the win. The two were joined in the second heat by Lukas Johnson - who picked up the pace with his back-up powerplant after seizing an engine during Friday practice. Batt led early before Johnson knifed his way to the point to score the win with Crockett running a close third. Both Batt and Crockett got the jump on the rookie Johnson as the flag waved to begin the 20-lap feature race. On cold MG Tires, Johnson shined as he quickly took care of both to assume the lead by the end of lap three. Crockett was able to challenge early, taking over the lead near the halfway mark however Johnson put it in high gear in the closing laps. Saunders and Schoombee Light Up Streets of Willow for Wins at PKC South
Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:04
With a wide open course and over 100 mph speeds, anything can and will happen. The fourth round of the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge South program saw just that as they visited the popular Streets of Willow course in Rosamond, California, co-hosting with a US Rotax Max Challenge program – the Gatorz Karting Cup series. Considered by many as a sprint course on steroids, the 1.8-mile course at the Willow Springs International Motorsports Park provides the feel of road racing while still providing the short-track mentality.

Drafting is a key element contesting the Streets course – with the ability to get through the corners the quickest still a crucial part to putting together the right package. Working together was another factor – both on and off the track. Drivers worked together to produce the fast laps, while SKUSA and Gatorz Karting Cup operations joined forces to put on the event, welcoming over 100 drivers total. The union was the first for the two separate entities, and with the experiment a great success, cooperation between the two is expected to be seen in the future for the two Southern California-based operations. “It was a great time working with the Gatorz crew and seeing so many karts on track – we’re definitely planning on doing it again,” stated SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher.
