The calendar is now set for the inaugural Superkarts! USA Pro Tour, the new three-weekend national series that will take the organization and its dedicated competitors to a new level in 2010. Growth has been the key word for SKUSA over the past three years thanks to the addition of new regional programs – and the continuing development of the popular SuperNationals – and the Pro Tour is just the next step in their planned development. SKUSA is now happy to be able to confirm the completion of the 2010 schedule with the announcement that the first annual ‘SummerNationals’ will be held on July 16-18 at the USA International Raceway (USAIR) in Shawano, WI. The organization is also excited to release the first installment of the Pro Tour prize package, which will include guaranteed SuperSunday starting positions on the grid in Las Vegas at the SuperNats in November.
While the Pro Tour opener at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on April 16-18 was confirmed in the last two releases of the schedule, the second race on the calendar had been originally tagged as a TBA for the venue. During the planning stages of the program, SKUSA president Tom Kutscher was extremely focused on putting a temporary circuit event together for the second race of the series to eliminate the potential for pre-race testing, but when the preferred venue was deemed logistically inadequate, the availability of the incredible facility in Shawano was a perfect fit. USAIR has not held a major national event since 2008, so their track management is thrilled to be able to once again cater to the top drivers in the nation. Boasting a challenging and undulating track layout and some of the best facilities in the nation, USAIR is expected to attract a large contingent of SKUSA regulars and an exciting influx of local talent. A special Pro Tour layout will be determined before the track opens for the new season and that unique configuration will be not be available for racers at anytime before the event in order to maintain the desired level playing field. |

Recently SKUSA released some changes to our Stock Moto program. We have received almost universal support from our partners, competitors and engine builders for these changes. There have been some questions that need further clarification and updating.
-
SKUSA CR125 Timing Plate: the optional Timing plate was developed to allow competitors to set their timing to stock settings, as we recently required for 2010. While the reinstallation of an unmodified stock stamped steel plate is also permitted, many have been removed or modified – which makes them unacceptable. As the plate is not available from Honda separately, the only way to obtain one is to purchase a complete ignition. The SKUSA Timing Plate was developed to meet this requirement, and is now available from SKUSA on the on-line PKC store (at cost). Note that by developing this solution, even modified aluminum stator base plates may continue to be used.

SuperkartsUSA congratulates both of these drivers and wishes them good luck in the upcoming 2010 Jim Russell Championship Series!
Alex Ellis of Canada and Gary Carlton from the USA have been chosen from an international field as the winners of the Jim Russell Future Driver 2010 selection. Ellis and Carlton each receives a fully-funded season in the 2010 Jim Russell Championship Series plus coaching and testing opportunities.
Almost 40 drivers, representing 10 different countries and with an average age of 20 (the youngest being 14), participated in the four-day (December 19-22) selection process at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., which features the impressive Jim Russell Racing Drivers School complex.
A total of 20 drivers were then selected to continue in to the final two-days, with six progressing into the last day of Jim Russell’s new worldwide driver search program which was launched this year to find the best young talent from the worlds of karting and “junior” formula car racing. Speed, precision and car control were evaluated when driving karts, Mitsubishi Evolution X sedans and the school’s purpose-built FJR-50 single-seater race cars. They were appraised on their application of “feedback”, technical understanding of each of the vehicles while media awareness, racecraft and fitness were also observed and evaluated in the latter stages.
In addition to Ellis and Carlton, Germany’s Bastien Graber (18), James Kovacic (16), from Australia, Brazilian Felipe Polehtto (20), and American Jeffrey Westphal (23) were involved in the final day, six-driver shoot-out. Read Full story on eKartingnews.com. |

For some time, the Superkarts! USA management team has been concerned about the increasing number of complaints regarding escalating costs in its Stock Honda program. Some of the complaints are due to the component choices inherit in our current rules set, while others are due to the ability to utilize non-stock settings or parts. While some of these variants were initially approved to minimize availability problems, they have since become performance oriented. As such, with reliability being the primary goal, SKUSA is announcing the following rule changes, which will go into effect on January 1, 2010.
“While we realize that these changes may not be universally welcomed, we believe that it is in the best, long run interest of the Stock Moto program to return to as close a “box stock” configuration as possible,” offered John Motley, SKUSA’s National Technical Director.
