Familiar Faces Conquer Heat and Competition at Fifth Stop for California ProKart Challenge
Thursday, 12 September 2013 12:06
It was a return to action for the California ProKart Challenge program, hosting the fifth round of the 2013 season on September 6-7. The Superkarts! USA regional series returned to the Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California for the second time this year, contesting the challenging 7/10-mile course in the opposite direction from the first visit back in February. Aside from the track direction, conditions were very different from the season opener, as triple digit weather tested the top shifterkart and TaG drivers from the western portion of the country. A number of familiar faces stepped up to the challenge to land themselves on the podium, with many securing a solid position for the year-end championship to be decided at the end of the month.

The Pure Karting TaG Senior division began with Austin Elliott scoring the top spot in the qualifying session. He was able to edge out Carlee Taylor by a slim 25 thousandths of a second, with championship leader Jake Craig in third. Heat one ended with a wild finish, as Elliott led all but the final circuit with Alejo Fernandez going from third to first, as Elliott fell to fourth behind Craig and Travis Lowe. Fernandez would then lead most of heat two, until Lowe advanced to the front on the white flag lap and held on to score the win over Elliott, with Craig third. Lowe got the jump on the field to lead the first three laps of the main event until Matt Johnson charged his way from fifth on the grid into the first position. Bringing Craig with him, they demoted Lowe back to the third position. The top three would run that way until the final laps, when Lowe began pressuring the point leader. This gave Johnson enough room to cruise to his first victory of the season. Lowe would work past Craig for the second spot as they completed the podium. Elliott ran fourth, with Chris Cricca earning his second straight top-five finish.

Superkarts! USA Announces Schedule for 2014 Pro Tour
Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:38
Superkarts! USA is excited to formally announce the schedule for the 2014 SKUSA Pro Tour. The program will once again feature three major events – the SpringNationals in May, the SummerNationals in August and the season-ending SuperNationals on its traditional November weekend ahead of Thanksgiving. This new schedule has been developed after extensive efforts to avoid conflict with other racing series, and the staff at SKUSA is very motivated for the new season – thanks to some very exciting opportunities that have fallen into place.

SKUSA’s flagship ProKart Challenge series, which is based in California, works closely with the other large series in the state, and has chosen to race on the first weekend of every month. The Pro Tour will follow this formula for 2014, and the first two races have been scheduled for the first weekends of May and August.

The opening round of the Pro Tour – the SpringNationals – will take place on the May 2-4 weekend, moving into the month of May this year after the first four editions were run in April. SKUSA’s focus on cooperation with other Southwestern US programs led to the move, as the month of April is jam-packed with both racing events and special holidays. SKUSA was dedicated to taking into consideration the need to avoid conflict with partners like the Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) and the previous-announced finale of the Challenge of the Americas, which needed to be moved to the opening weekend of April to avoid another conflict. In addition, April is home to a major California motorsports event – the Long Beach Grand Prix – as well as the Easter Weekend. With May 2-4 being open, and in line with SKUSA’s regional PKC program of running on the first weekend of the month, the date seemed to fall nicely into place.

Superkarts! USA Primed for Inaugural Midwest Shifterfest
Thursday, 29 August 2013 11:45
Over the past three years, Superkarts! USA has been working diligently to develop new regional programs through the Western half of the United States. Regional series and club support ventures have been launched in Texas, Colorado and the Pacific Northwest with much success and the organization’s growing Pro Tour has been on a steady upward climb of support since its launch in 2010. While the organization’s annual SuperNationals has routinely draw from all over the U.S., laying roots east of the Mississippi has not been as fruitful despite the fact that SKUSA’s real history begins in the Great Lakes region of the country. A new direction has been implemented and it will come in the form of a single one-off national event to reset the brand in the region. On September 13-15, Superkarts! USA will button up the current Midwest ProKart Challenge series at the inaugural ‘Midwest Shifterfest’, which will be the debut of a new event that will offer up loads of track time as a SuperNationals tune-up, and prize money for Open Shifter and S2. In addition, SKUSA is supporting this weekend’s Rock Island Grand Prix, offering free Shifterfest entries for the winner of any of the three gearbox classes (King of the Streets, 125cc Open Shifter and 125cc Masters Shifter).
