Superkarts! USA Announces 2012 Pro Tour Schedule
Friday, 09 September 2011 16:33
In an effort to continue the incredible momentum that the organization has been enjoying this season, Superkarts! USA is thrilled to be able to officially announce the dates for their 2012 Pro Tour. The second edition of SKUSA’s West Coast circuit enjoyed significant growth this past season, and more is expected in 2012 when the series travels to Phoenix, AZ for the SpringNationals in April. The traditional July scheduling of the SummerNationals is set -- with the actual venue to be announced soon. As has been the case for the last 15 years, Las Vegas will play host to the SuperNationals in November.

For 2012, the Pro Tour will kick off with the third annual SpringNationals on April 20-22 at the Phoenix Kart Racing Association facility in Glendale, AZ. The venue for the SummerNationals is currently in the works, pending final discussions and a pair of site inspections on two potential locations. The date has been confirmed for the July 20-22 weekend. The traditional cap to the season will be the SuperNationals at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on November 14-18, 2012 -- dates that have been contracted through 2013.

“I would have liked to have been able to officially announce both venues at this time, but we need to do a little more work before this can happen,” offers Tom Kutscher, Superkarts! USA President. “That said, I feel that it is important to our drivers and teams to get our dates out as soon as possible, so that they can begin assembling their 2012 travel schedules. We’re very close to a decision on the SummerNationals location, and I expect that it will be confirmed before we head to Las Vegas.”

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour MothersĀ® SummerNationals - Sunday Report

The fourth round of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour completed on Sunday as the Mothers® SummerNationals wrapped up at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Colorado. An interesting day of weather surrounded the area with rain storms pushing their way around the facility throughout the racing action, allowing for a dry but hot day around the 9/10-mile course. The racing action picked up, as you typically see in the final day of events, producing some great racing. Stamping his name in the championship chase was S1 driver Tom Dyer as he piloted his Aluminos entry to the win and event victory while IndyCar Series driver Martin Plowman scored the TaG Senior win.

S1 Pro Stock Moto
The S1 Pro Stock Moto category was positioned as the headline class for Sunday’s action, last to hit the track for qualifying. On his out lap, Kiwi driver Daniel Bray (GP) took the provisional pole with a 52.796. Rookie Lukas Johnson (GP) struck back the next lap to take over the spot. At the same time, Saturday winner Brad Dunford (GP) moved into second. Lap three was Bray’s for the taking as he retook the pole position and held it through the end of the session. His 52.282-lap was best with Johnson pushed back to second. Tom Dyer (GP) was last to hit the track and moved up to third on his second circuit, moving Dunford down to fourth and Ryon Beachner (Tony Kart) rounding out the fast-five.

The first day of action went into the books for Superkarts! USA Pro Tour Mothers® SummerNationals. The Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Colorado was the back drop for what was another exciting day of racing in the eight categories on hand. The weather challenged the competitors all day long, beginning with cloudy skies early on before the weather cranked up throughout the day while the occasional gust of wind dusted the track surface and tested the tents throughout the paddock. While each category had its own hero of the day, NorCal’s Brett Felkins left the day extending his point lead in the TaG Senior Pro Tour standings with win number two of the season as SoCal’s Brad Dunford earned his first national victory in S1 Pro Stock Moto.

TaG Senior
The headline class for day one of action was the TaG Senior division as they began their day with an open pit 12-minute session for qualifying. British native and recent IndyCar Series signee Martin Plowman (Zanardi/Leopard) set the early mark in his first three laps, on the border to break the 53-second mark. Lap three was the best Plowman could do during his first stint, posting a 54.107-lap with 14-year old Dakota Dickerson (Arrow/Rotax) back by just 0.048-seconds on his fourth lap. They would all drop down the order when veteran Eric Jones (Arrow/Rotax) posted his fifth lap of the session, just three-thousandths of a second quicker than Plowman’s time. Late in the session, point leader Brett Felkins (Intrepid/Leopard) made a charge into the top three, just 15-thousandths off Jones’ mark. Jones rejoined the track with less than two minutes in the session after a carburetion change on his KartSport North American Rotax powerplant but pulled off before completing a timed lap. His best time stood through to the checkered flag with Plowman second, Felkins third and Dickerson fourth - all separated by just 51-thousandths of a second. Matt Johnson (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished off the fast-five, two-tenths off the best lap.
