Superkarts! USA Recognizes 2013 Pro Tour Champions
Friday, 20 December 2013 11:13
The 2013 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour came to a close following the action at this year’s record-breaking SuperNationals XVII. It was a historic year for the fourth season of the Pro Tour, seeing an increase in numbers across the board for both the SpringNationals in Tucson and the SummerNationals in Colorado. Each of the eight categories in this year’s championship chases saw new drivers claim the SKUSA #1 plate for the 2014 season, following a dramatic three weekend series.

Over $45,000 in cash and prizes were handed out following the activities in Las Vegas, with the podium ceremonies held inside the Rio Sunday evening. The headline S1 and TaG Senior divisions split a $12,000 cash purse, while Honda Racing/HPD provided over $6,000 in contingency awards to the Stock Moto drivers. Vortex once again awarded the TaG Cadet champion with an entry to the Rok Cup International Final in Italy, while all 2013 title winners will be included in the 2014 SKUSA Circle of Champions, receiving free entry into the entire SKUSA Pro Tour next season. Nearly all eight of the championships came down to the wire, some even on the final lap of the feature races at the SuperNationals.

That was not more evident than with the opening race of SuperSunday: the headline S1 Pro Stock Moto class, presented by SwedeTech Racing Engines. Two-time Pro Tour champion Fritz Leesmann entered the SuperNationals leading the championship by what was considered to be a comfortable margin. Last year’s runner-up Joey Wimsett, however, had other ideas as the Oregon driver scored the fast time in qualifying then earned top five finishes in the three heat races. Leesmann struggled and went scoreless, closing the gap heading into the main event on SuperSunday. Wimsett went green-to-checkered for the victory, and would earn enough points to surpass Leesmann for the title. 2011 champion Daniel Bray would come just 19 points away from the top spot, ending up second with Leesmann back to third.

SKUSA SummerNationals to Take On Streets of Modesto
Friday, 27 September 2013 22:27
As announced on Tuesday by the Modesto Bee newspaper, Superkarts! USA will be taking its growing Pro Tour to northern California in August of 2014 for the fifth running of the SummerNationals. The City of Modesto, which is located roughly an hour away from San Francisco Bay area, will welcome SKUSA racers and teams on August 1-3, 2014 and present them with an exciting street circuit in their downtown core. The combination of the increasing numbers on the Pro Tour, along with the uniqueness of a brand new street race, could position the 2014 SKUSA SummerNationals as one of the biggest karting events in North America.

“I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to work directly with a city like Modesto in bringing the SummerNationals to northern California. In fact, I haven’t been this excited in a long time,” commented Tom Kutscher, who has being working for over four months to put this program together. “The city is thrilled to have us and we’re designing a professional level event to present to both the city’s motorsports enthusiasts and to those who don’t know much about racing. They are going to take this race to the next level and are working to build the atmosphere to new heights.”

Superkarts! USA Announces Schedule for 2014 Pro Tour
Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:38
Superkarts! USA is excited to formally announce the schedule for the 2014 SKUSA Pro Tour. The program will once again feature three major events – the SpringNationals in May, the SummerNationals in August and the season-ending SuperNationals on its traditional November weekend ahead of Thanksgiving. This new schedule has been developed after extensive efforts to avoid conflict with other racing series, and the staff at SKUSA is very motivated for the new season – thanks to some very exciting opportunities that have fallen into place.

SKUSA’s flagship ProKart Challenge series, which is based in California, works closely with the other large series in the state, and has chosen to race on the first weekend of every month. The Pro Tour will follow this formula for 2014, and the first two races have been scheduled for the first weekends of May and August.

The opening round of the Pro Tour – the SpringNationals – will take place on the May 2-4 weekend, moving into the month of May this year after the first four editions were run in April. SKUSA’s focus on cooperation with other Southwestern US programs led to the move, as the month of April is jam-packed with both racing events and special holidays. SKUSA was dedicated to taking into consideration the need to avoid conflict with partners like the Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) and the previous-announced finale of the Challenge of the Americas, which needed to be moved to the opening weekend of April to avoid another conflict. In addition, April is home to a major California motorsports event – the Long Beach Grand Prix – as well as the Easter Weekend. With May 2-4 being open, and in line with SKUSA’s regional PKC program of running on the first weekend of the month, the date seemed to fall nicely into place.

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals – Sunday Report
Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:58
The competition level at the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour has continued to elevate year after year. Now into the fourth season, the numbers grow with each event, and the challenge of earning a main event victory increases. This year’s SummerNationals ended Sunday under a hot sun in the Grand Junction mountains in Colorado at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. The eight categories competing on the outstanding 9/10-mile circuit provided some of the best racing seen to date. A number of drivers were able to double up on their wins from Saturday, but other categories welcomed their fourth different winner of the season – showing just how tough the competition truly is. Brazilian Andre Nicastro and NorCal’s Fritz Leesmann were the top drivers in the Pro categories, taking home $1,000 for the weekend with Troy Diede and Dylan Tavella another $500 each for their efforts in the categories above the 30-kart mark.

DRT Racing TaG Senior
The TaG Senior category was the final group of the day, and it began how Sunday ended. Andre Nicastro put his Italian Motors USA/Italkart on the pole position with a time of 54.770-seconds. His teammate and returning SKUSA racer David Jurca nearly matched his pace to make it a Italkart 1-2 on the front row for heat one. Austin Elliott (Top Kart) was third with Derek Dignan finding some extra speed in his KartSport North America/FA Kart. Championship leader Andrew Zimmer (ART GP) was fifth in the order, looking to rebound from a 18th place finish on Saturday. Yesterday’s contender Remo Ruscitti (Italkart) was out early in session, back in 30th position at the end of the session while round three runner-up TJ Koyen was back in the P10 position.
