EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals – Sunday Report
Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:58
The competition level at the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour has continued to elevate year after year. Now into the fourth season, the numbers grow with each event, and the challenge of earning a main event victory increases. This year’s SummerNationals ended Sunday under a hot sun in the Grand Junction mountains in Colorado at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. The eight categories competing on the outstanding 9/10-mile circuit provided some of the best racing seen to date. A number of drivers were able to double up on their wins from Saturday, but other categories welcomed their fourth different winner of the season – showing just how tough the competition truly is. Brazilian Andre Nicastro and NorCal’s Fritz Leesmann were the top drivers in the Pro categories, taking home $1,000 for the weekend with Troy Diede and Dylan Tavella another $500 each for their efforts in the categories above the 30-kart mark.

DRT Racing TaG Senior
The TaG Senior category was the final group of the day, and it began how Sunday ended. Andre Nicastro put his Italian Motors USA/Italkart on the pole position with a time of 54.770-seconds. His teammate and returning SKUSA racer David Jurca nearly matched his pace to make it a Italkart 1-2 on the front row for heat one. Austin Elliott (Top Kart) was third with Derek Dignan finding some extra speed in his KartSport North America/FA Kart. Championship leader Andrew Zimmer (ART GP) was fifth in the order, looking to rebound from a 18th place finish on Saturday. Yesterday’s contender Remo Ruscitti (Italkart) was out early in session, back in 30th position at the end of the session while round three runner-up TJ Koyen was back in the P10 position.

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals – Saturday Report
Sunday, 21 July 2013 05:03
The 2013 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour reached its midway point today at Grand Junction Motor Speedway on Saturday, as the SummerNationals got underway in excellent, albeit hot conditions. The Colorado facility is centered on one of the most raceable tracks in the country, and SKUSA’s best drivers proved this claim by putting an incredible display of excitement all day long. Passing was the order of the day, although there were numerous pilots who stepped up to essentially dominate their respective classes. Big stories included the return to victory lane by former Pro Tour S1 champion Daniel Bray, a breakthrough win for Brian Fisher in S4, a Deide 1-2 in S2 and an ultimate comeback with by Andre Nicastro in TaG Senior. There was just great racing, all day, in every class.

CRG-USA S1 Pro Stock Moto
The S1 Pro category was the final group to hit the track for the qualifying session, as nearly the entire field posted their quick lap of the run within the first three laps. Familiar names set the pace with defending champion Fritz Leesmann (CRG) at the top of the order, posting a 52.368-second lap. Kiwi driver Daniel Bray, quickest in the final Friday practice run, was second and only 48 thousandths off his time aboard the new Aluminos chassis. Mike Beeny (Tony Kart) split up the returning top three, slotting third on the time sheets to put Joey Wimsett (CRG) to fourth. S1 rookie Billy Musgrave (Tony Kart) completed the fast-five.

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals – Paddock Pass
Saturday, 20 July 2013 06:53
The opening day of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SummerNationals can be described by two words – hot and sticky. Over 200 drivers took part in the practice day at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway, battling to keep cool while finding the right speed secrets for competition on the weekend. The facility and paddock is packed with haulers and tents, and the SKUSA staff continues to provide the one of the best run-programs on the weekend.

- During the middle portion of the day during the S4 Master Stock Moto practice, a collision between Lance Lane and PP Mastro occurred. The hard contact knocked both drivers off track, causing heavy damage to Lane’s DRT Racing/DR Kart. Mastro was able to continue on the rest of the day while Lane complained of back pain, later traveling to the medical center in town for a check-up.
