SuperNationals XX – 100 Days and Counting
Tuesday, 09 August 2016 10:58

It's hard to beat the excitement of a start on SuperSunday (Photo: OnTrack Promotions)

When Superkarts! USA put together the plans for the first SuperNationals event back in 1997, they were at the forefront of the growing movement of shifterkart racing. There were numerous pockets of support for the formula all over the United States and Canada, including Southern California, Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, Florida, and SKUSA’s own flagship Great Lakes region. Having one big race to bring everyone together was not a new concept in karting, but the raw excitement that paralleled the increasing interest in gearbox racing certainly made this event special. There was a real palpable feeling during those early years that if you were there, you were part of something really special. Now, 20 years down the road, we’re able to look back on the explosion of the race and the key decision that then-SKUSA leader Jim Murley made in 2002. Murley was always a visionary and he wanted desperately to take the race from the great desert track in Sloan right into the city of Las Vegas, and when the trailers rolled into the parking lot of the Rio Hotel and Casino in’02, the race was taken to the next level.

We’re now just 100 days from the 20th running of the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals, which is arguably the biggest race in the sport of karting. The SKUSA staff and its drivers will travel to Las Vegas with a full head of steam this November, thanks to record participation numbers in both their ProKart Challenge and Pro Tour programs. They are working diligently to make this race extra special, and the EKN staff has been privy to some of the exciting plans that are in the works. Over the next three months, we’ll be publishing updates and stories focused on the event, and we’ll also look back in time at the history of the SuperNationals. The Howden Media Group launched its first publication at the race in 1999 – Shifter Kart Illustrated – and our own Rob Howden has been the voice of the race since its inception. We also pleased that we’ll once again be providing EKN Trackside Live coverage, including full audio play-by-play of the event from qualifying through to SuperSunday.

Superkarts! USA today announced an exciting new partnership with VCI Mexico (Spanish: Visión Corporitva Integal / English: Integrated Corporate Vision) to be a presenting sponsor of the 20th annual SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. The partnership is the next evolution in a successful marketing campaign that VCI Mexico has been implementing at the national karting level and will see an expanded presence to highlight the core VCI business at SKUSA’s largest ever event.

“VCI has been a fixture on the national karting scene for many years, with numerous world class drivers in their ranks,” explained SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “These guys truly get karting and have a sincere appreciation for the reach of the sport. It’s a testament to our organization that they see an event like the SuperNationals as a means to reach new clientele globally.”

SUPERKARTS! USA ADDRESSES LINGERING QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS REGARDING IMPOUNDED ENGINES AND SUBSEQUENT RULING OF FINDINGS
Friday, 24 June 2016 08:00

Superkarts! USA has been compelled to respond to the ongoing questions surrounding the impounded Honda CR125 cylinders and better clarify the findings and subsequent actions resulting from the examination process.

Previous efforts to be discreet have unfortunately backfired, underscoring the need for the series to further elaborate on the events that transpired, based on the clear and present evidence of non-factory modifications.

As the previous press release indicated, four competitors’ cylinders were impounded at a regional ProKart Challenge event to test and rule out the common speculation that there was aftermarket coating present. Per the SKUSA rulebook, using any aftermarket coating like Nikasil® would be a clear violation of the stock format, and thus illegal. This speculation of aftermarket coatings has been a point of concern among many in SKUSA circles and something we felt important to officially repudiate once and for all with a comprehensive series of tests.

Syd White Enduro Set For Mid-February Date
Tuesday, 19 January 2016 21:04

With the start of the 2016 season now bearing down on the West Coast, it’s once again time for one of the largest and most unique four-cycle racing event of the year - the Syd White Memorial Enduro. The fifth edition of this event is set for February 13-14, and is hosted by Monterey Bay Karters at the Marina Airport in Marina, California. Event registration is now live and the team entry fee for early birds is set at $200.

The race promises to bring some of the most fun and close racing available to Briggs & Stratton kart racers on the West Coast. Briggs Racing has once again stepped up to support this event by providing free practice to the first 32 teams that sign-up for the event by January 31, 2016. This four-hour team endurance race also marks the first event utilizing the new Evinco tire and will be a testament to the performance of the Evinco product line. Four different classes will be run within the race, including World Formula, World Formula Masters, LO206 Senior and LO206 Junior 2.
