SuperNats24: Mission Possible - SuperKarts! Announces Forced Venue And Host Hotel Change For Upcoming SKUSA SuperNationals December 01-05, 2021
Monday, 15 November 2021 22:01

After many days of speculation, Superkarts! USA can finally confirm that they have been forced to change venues and host hotel for the upcoming SKUSA SuperNationals 24. The move comes on the heels of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino electing to cancel their longstanding contract for 2021, just days before the scheduled event.

With an enforceable contract in hand, SKUSA pursued legal remedies to fight the hotel’s cancellation, including filing motions for a cease and desist and legal injunctions to prevent their termination of the contract.

“A courtroom is never a place any promoter wants to find themselves,” explained a frustrated Tom Kutscher. “While SKUSA’s legal team was confident the courts would uphold our contract and the Rio would be forced to honor the deal, the regrettable truth is that there are never guarantees in any lawsuit. With an entire industry reliant upon this race for revenue, it became increasingly harder to hold out for lawyers to do their thing. My worst nightmare was a scenario where we had no time to pursue an alternative plan in the off-chance courts didn’t rule our way. The race must take place, no matter what!”

As a result of the canceled contract, SKUSA has worked around the clock to find a suitable alternative — in Las Vegas, that had enough space to accommodate a proper SuperNationals. The venue had to accommodate a racetrack with 500+ drivers and supporting space for event infrastructure. This proved to be no easy feat, considering the short notice and other unrelated events in town the same weekend. After careful consideration, and with safety as the guiding factor, SKUSA can confirm they will be moving this year’s SuperNationals to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

SKUSA To Officially Adopt Aspen Sport As New Spec Racing Fuel In An Effort To Promote Safer And Cleaner Solutions For Racers And The Environment
Monday, 08 November 2021 01:00

Superkarts! USA today announced they will adopt Aspen SPORT as the official racing fuel for SKUSA competition, beginning with this December’s 24th annual SKUSA SuperNationals. The move comes after extensive research and multiple fuel tests, comparing the Aspen SPORT product to previous offerings in the marketplace.

Aspen is a global leader in producing clean fuels throughout the world, and a longtime market leader in the Scandinavian marketplace. This is in large part to Aspen’s commitment to producing the cleanest and safest fuel possible, with audited research and testing to validate their claims.

SKUSA underwent and performed a neutral comparison test of their own, after the SKUSA SpringNationals. A third-party research company audited and measured Aspen fuels to that of the competition, with results showing an undeniable advantage for Aspen.

The 2021 season for the California ProKart Challenge is set to close out next weekend (October 2-3) at the CalSpeed Karting facility. The Fontana, California circuit outside the Auto Club Speedway is hosting the sixth and final round of the championship chase. The program contested a double-round weekend here back in June, with this single-round event set to battle around the ‘Classico’ layout in the counter-clockwise direction. Action in Fontana will be the final step of the 2021 championship program, with drivers taking the best five of six rounds toward the final standings.

Billy Musgrave is setting up for a run at an eighth series championship in the Pro Shifter division presented by Positive Beverage. Musgrave has four wins in five rounds, leading the championship by 143 points over Jacob Yesnick, with Liam Jones in third. Three drivers enter the series finale separated by 66 points in the Nash Motorsportz KA100 Senior standings. Blake Nash holds the lead thanks to his two victories on the season, leading Oliver Calvo and Round Two victor Dante Yu.

SuperKarts! USA Announces Changes To Pro and Master Shifter Weights As Well As A Combined Class Structure For The Upcoming SuperNationals 24
Friday, 17 September 2021 15:06
Due to worldwide COVID-19 travel restrictions and lower than expected numbers thus far in the separate shifter categories, and so we could open other SuperNationals classes that were waitlisted to higher capacity, we have decided to combine the two Pro Shifter classes back into one.

Continuing our pledge to respond to customer demand and feedback, SKUSA is pleased to announce the following rule update. Beginning with the SKUSA SuperNationals, the weights for respective shifter classes will change to the following:
  • Pro Shifter (KZ/SSE) - 390 LBS
  • Master Shifter (KZ/SSE) - 405 LBS
The change in weight comes after much research, data collection and comparisons throughout the year with the mixed engine format. The new weight allows for closer competition and opens the widest berth for a larger number of drivers in the SKUSA ProTour program.

The event purse will remain the same for the combined Pro Shifter class if a KZ wins. A contingency prize is being offered to any driver running the IAME SSE package that puts it on pole and/or wins the race.

  Purse USD SSE Contingency
Pole $3,000 + $2000
1st $10,000 + $5000
2nd $5,000
3rd $2,000

2021 California ProKart Challenge Battles Continued at Willow Springs

The California ProKart Challenge hosted the penultimate round of the 2021 season on the September 11-12 weekend at the Willow Springs International Raceway. The Rosamond, California facility has been the site of many Superkarts! USA regional program events in the past, including both the famed Streets of Willow course and the karting circuit. The two-day event for Round Five of the 2021 championship program was held on the nine-turn, 6/10-mile kart track in the counter-clockwise direction.

Blake Nash put himself back into the championship chase with his first victory in the Nash Motorsportz KA100 Senior class since the season opener. His performance on the weekend was a near perfect two days that began with a blitzing fast lap in qualifying. Nash laid down a 45.855-second lap to clear the 28-driver field by three tenths of a second. The following day, Nash led all 14 laps in the Prefinal to a 1.5-second advantage. The 24-lap Final began with Oliver Calvo getting the jump on Nash, leading the opening eight laps. Nash took over the position on lap nine and showed the way the remainder of the race for the victory. Calvo finished second, helping his efforts toward the series championship. Aiden Kempf joined them on the podium in third with Colby Dubato and Ayden Aquino completing the top-five. Championship leader Dante Yu was seventh, setting up for an exciting final round.
