The first half of the 2022 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is in the books following Round Three being contested on the first day of competition at the SKUSA SpringNationals presented by ASPEN Fuels USA. The third time the event has been held at the Utah Motorsports Campus – fourth total visit to the Erda, Utah facility – is in a different month. The weather throughout the weekend, including today, felt more like July, as temps rose into the mid-90s by the final checkered flag. The heat was felt on and off the track for the nine categories deciding today’s winners.
The headline Pro Shifter category sponsored by PSL Karting featured 25 drivers on the day. Back in NOLA at the WinterNationals, they were all chasing 2019 FIA World Karting KZ Champion Marijn Kremers (PSL / Birel ART). The Dutchman was able to edge out 2017 champion Jake French (PSL / Birel ART) by 21 thousandths with a 55.369-lap in qualifying. In the Prefinal, French was able to take the lead after four-time SuperNationals winner Billy Musgrave (Factory Kart) grabbed the holeshot. French went on to take the provisional win, holding off Kremers at the line. A pushback bumper penalty dropped French to fourth and put Kremers P1 with defending champion AJ Myers (Magik Kart USA) alongside on the front row. Myers took the holeshot to begin the 20-lap Final with Kremers slotting into second. After the first circuit, Kremers looked inside of Myers in turn one. The two made contact at the apex of turn two, sending both off in the dirt. Myers spun around backwards while Kremers rejoined further down the order. This gave French the lead with Hunter Pickett (PSL / Birel ART) in second. Eventually, 2019 champion Kyle Wick (GFC / Trackmagic) was on the hunt after suffering an engine issue in qualifying and driving up to eighth in the Prefinal. He would put himself into the second spot by lap 12 and slowly reeled in French. Coming to the white flag, Wick was able to move around French and from there, drive off to the checkered flag for the victory – the first in Pro Tour history for the Trackmagic brand. It is Wick’s first Pro Tour victory since SpringNationals 2018 in Phoenix. French settled for second, his best finish of the 2022 season thus far with Pickett joining them on the podium in third. Jacob Gulick (GFC) drove to fourth with Hannah Greenemeier (RPG / LN Racing Kart) placing fifth in her Pro Shifter debut. Kremers drove back to eighth while Myers ended up 18th.

The second stop of the 2022 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour takes karters to the Utah Motorsports Campus for the 12th edition of the SKUSA SpringNationals – presented by ASPEN Fuels USA. Round Three and Four of the SKUSA Pro Tour will be contested at the Erda, Utah facility, as the 13th season of the championship program resumes after the opening two rounds were contested at the NOLA Motorsports Park back in April.
With 204 pre-entries over the nine categories, this makes it the second highest total since 2018, just 17 short of the total from last year. This weekend is the fourth visit for the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour to the Utah Motorsports Campus, dating back to the 2012 SummerNationals at the then named Miller Motorsports Park. The SpringNationals in 2019 and 2021 were held at UMC.
The Miller Motorsports Park was opened in 2006 and carried that name until changing in October 2015 to Utah Motorsports Campus. Over the 16 years, the 0.9-mile karting circuit has hosted a number of national and regional events, including three previous SKUSA Pro Tour events. The ‘Star Trek’ layout features 18 turns, with this year’s SpringNationals following the same direction as the previous two, going in the clockwise direction. Read full story on eKartingNew.com |

As Superkarts! USA prepares for its second event of the 2022 ProTour championship, the series is proud to unveil a SpringNationals event sponsor and partner: ASPEN Fuels USA. Together, ASPEN Fuels and SKUSA are proud to announce an exciting prize package they are calling “Green for Green.”
The concept will see an unprecedented $6,000 offered as a purse for the Pro Shifter class, spread across the top 3 points earners on the weekend – on top of the $8,000 purse that is already in place for the top 3 winners of the 2 rounds. This means that the 3 drivers who score the most cumulative championship points across both rounds (Saturday and Sunday) after the final points tally will be awarded the prize money. The breakdown is as follows:
Most Points for the Weekend (Rounds 3 & 4 Combined)
-
1st Place - $3,000
-

The California ProKart Challenge completed the second round of the 2022 season over the May 14-15 weekend at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. It was the second straight event at the central California facility, with the opening event contested there in April. This time it would be in the clockwise direction around the 7/10-mile circuit. Another chunk of the $70,000 prize package for this season was awarded following the two days of action at Buttonwillow – with all but two drivers earning their first wins of the series this year.

Who said, ‘You can never go home again?’ In what can only be described as a full-circle announcement, Superkarts! USA has confirmed that the milestone 25th edition of the SKUSA SuperNationals will indeed be held at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino this November 16-20, 2022.
After a volatile 2021 that saw the event forced to relocate on very short notice, SKUSA and the executives at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino reconvened to address the remaining year on an existing multi-year contract.
“I’m pretty candid and honest – sometimes to a fault,” remarked SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. “The thought of going back to the Rio after what occurred in 2021 was the last thing on my mind. But the truth is, there was still one year left on the current agreement that we had to reconcile. We sat down with the brass at the Rio and had a very frank discussion about what had occurred. As many can imagine, we weren’t keen on returning. That said, I would be lying if I didn’t admit that the event has always felt most at home at the Rio. And in fact, with the hotel having been recently sold by Caesars Entertainment, the new ownership was quite eager and enthusiastic to start fresh.”
