Superkarts! USA Set to Rock the Streets of Lancaster
Friday, 24 August 2012 14:42
The newly-revitalized downtown core of Lancaster, California will take its entertainment line-up to the next level in just three week’s time, when the Superkarts! USA road warriors of the California ProKart Challenge invade the ‘Boulevard’ for the 4th annual Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. The event promises to be the largest in its history, as talk of this year’s festival has spread throughout the karting community. As the perfect ‘temporary circuit’ tune-up for SKUSA’s annual SuperNationals at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas this November, the Grand Prix will attract the top shifterkart and TaG racers on the West Coast. No one can argue that Superkarts! USA is the series on the move these days, and their combination of hardcore racing, growing entry numbers, competitive fields, and an enjoyable atmosphere have become the standard to which all other organizations aspire. Registration for the race is now open on the Superkarts! USA website.

SKUSA made its debut as the organizer of the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix last year, and brought professional event management to the street race, taking the layout right to the heart of the downtown core to kick things up a notch. The addition of a 1000’ straightaway only served to give the layout a character that is unique in North American karting. The racing that resulted was thrilling for the massive crowd that packed the area’s downtown core for the event. The race has the definite possibility of becoming the largest karting event in southern California, as SKUSA is anticipating that more than 150 drivers will be setting up in the paddock come Friday, September 14.

Johnson and McNeil Extend Point Leads with Victories at California PKC in Santa Maria
Wednesday, 22 August 2012 11:26
The California ProKart Challenge hosted the penultimate round of the 2012 series championship at the popular Santa Maria Karting Association facility in Santa Maria last weekend. A rare facility – located on the grounds of an airport – offered a challenging course and comfortable weather conditions for racing. The fight on-track witnessed the championship leaders in the headline categories – TaG Senior and S1 Pro Stock Moto – extend their advantage in the standings with feature wins Saturday, August 18. Matt Johnson and Jimmy McNeil each scored their third victory of the year in convincing fashion.

Johnson had to battle his way to the front in the Leading Edge Motorsports-sponsored TaG Senior category after qualifying seventh. Top honors went to young pilots Enzo Mestre and Jake Craig. The field was tight as the top six drivers in the session were all within a tenth of Mestre’s time. In the opening heat race, Johnson found his pace and worked his way to the point. By lap seven, Johnson secured the lead and went on to score the win. Mestre and Johnson went back and forth in the second heat race. At the checkered flag, Johnson crossed the line first with Mestre on his bumper. The main event was all Johnson. Jumping out to the lead, championship rival Travis Lowe advanced his way into the second position. The two drivers ran 1-2 the entire time. Johnson drove to his third victory of the season with Lowe, earning fast lap honors, placing second for the third time on the year. Mestre was a close third to round out the podium, with Devin Lindsey and Bobby Kelley completing the top-five.

California ProKart Challenge Returns to Santa Maria Kart Track
Tuesday, 14 August 2012 10:21
The California ProKart Challenge returns to action this weekend (August 17-18) when it hosts the fifth round of the 2012 season at the Santa Maria Karting Association facility in Santa Maria. A favorite by the competitors and their families, the SMKA kart track has been a familiar meeting ground for the NorCal contingent to meet with the Southern California crowd, hosting the West Coast Shootout in previous years. After a year off of the Superkarts! USA calendar, California PKC drivers will contest the penultimate round of the year at this destination location once again.

With the best five of six results counting toward the final standings, the championships and pieces of the $65,000 prize package are still up for grabs. Matt Johnson has been the best in the Leading Edge Motorsports-sponsored TaG Senior category. Starting out the year with two victories, Johnson has continued to run up front and leads the title chase by 201 points. Defending champ Travis Lowe has two runner-up finishes this season, shut out thus far in the win column to sit second. With his victory in Buttonwillow back in June, Jimmy McNeil secured the lead in the S1 Pro Stock Moto championship, sponsored by Extreme Karting/Vemme Kart. Round three winner Nicky Freytag currently sits second, 124 points out of the lead. Just 24 markers behind him is Ryon Beachner, riding on two straight runner-up finishes.
