Team News: Cameron Motorsports
Thursday, 04 December 2008 21:27
In its last event of the 2008 season, a six-man Cameron Motorsports/CRG line-up headed to Las Vegas a week ago for National Guard Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XII at the Rio Hotel and Casino. In a fitting close to a stellar campaign, the weekend ended with a podium performance once again.

The run came from reigning ICC National Champion Michael Vincec in SuperPro as the familiar #5 took fifth on Super Sunday. It capped a strong recovery run for the weekend’s work, four days where Vincec and tuner Trevor Wickens were hustling in perhaps the deepest SuperPro field in SuperNationals history. “Practice started off well, but in the final couple of sessions we struggled a little,” Vincec set in replaying his start to the weekend. Qualifying followed, and the pair had some work to do going forward. “P13 wasn’t what I was hoping for,” he said. “I was in the 5 spot until the last few minutes, then in the final minutes of the session I couldn’t get a clean lap together.”  Read Full Story on EKN.

Driver News: Brendan Phinny
Wednesday, 03 December 2008 21:14
Race car drivers will tell you that any win is special, but in reality some tend to be a bit more special than others. For Brendan Phinny, his win at the SKUSA SuperNationals XII on Sunday, November 23 fell into that category as it concluded a championship-winning karting season and could be considered the biggest of his fledgling career as he beat a renowned NASCAR Sprint Cup star across the finish line.

At only 14-years of age, Phinny normally isn’t eligible to compete in the Senior division, but petitioned to compete in the S3 class at the SKUSA SuperNationals and was granted a waiver to do so. Coming into the Las Vegas event, Phinny wasn’t really considered much of a threat as it was going to be his first race in the Senior division (and the flagship one at that) and he was squaring off against several well-known professional drivers such as Jamie McMurray (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner) and Memo Gidley (Grand-Am Rolex Series Daytona Prototype driver).   Read Full Story on EKN.

Team News: Kartel Motorsports
Wednesday, 03 December 2008 21:11
After a big weekend at the Stars of Karting National Finals in Las Vegas, Kartel Motorsports drivers looked to end the Nor Cal Region 11 IKF on a positive note, and prepare for the SKUSA SuperNationals XII. As the 2008 season came to an end for most, the Kartel staff was still in full assault mode. Kartel drivers were at the track testing every weekend, and Kartel was testing themselves every chance they had. All the time paid off in big ways.  Read Full Story on EKN.

Team News: Aluminos
Tuesday, 02 December 2008 19:20
It was a successful weekend for the Team Aluminos squad at the recent National Guard Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XII. A large tent filled with Aluminos-prepped GP Kart machines did battle outside the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to earn victories and prizes at the biggest event of the year. With nearly 20 drivers running under the Aluminos banner - many for the first time at the SuperNats - the overall picture was a success for owner Rob Soares and his hard-working staff.

The highlight of the event was the consistent weeklong run by New Zealander Daniel Bray. A second-time SuperNats driver, Bray returned this year determined to redeem himself from a DNF in the S1 main event last fall. With this unfinished business, Bray battled some of the top up-and-coming shifter kart drivers of North America and definitely held his own. Qualifying third, he would go on to finish third, fourth and fifth in the heat races to start outside row one for the main event on SuperSunday. Starting outside row one, Bray ran second for the majority of the 30-lap feature. Heavy pressure put the Kiwi back to fourth with five laps to go, but he battled back to cross the line in second, getting the chance to stand on the SuperNationals podium.  Read Full Story on EKN.

Team News: Italian Motors
Tuesday, 02 December 2008 15:05
An all new look and strong results for Italkart and Italian Motors were delivered at this year’s SKUSA Super Nationals. With over 400 driver entries in the event, ten drivers took part under the Italian Motors banner in five separate classes.

With one hundred entries in the TaG Senior category, it was Grand Am driver Michael Valiante making an appearance along with Stars of Karting TAG ICC Eastern Champion Michael Hogg and Cameron Karting’s Brett Buckwalter. In qualifying it was Valiante securing the second position only a tenth behind the leader. Buckwalter was also able to put down a fast lap grabbing the 8th place position while Hogg was unable to complete the qualifying session and was forced to put together several great runs to advance into Sunday’s “A” main. Valiante would grid seventh with Buckwalter starting on the front row. Valiante would be the driver on the move making up several positions on the first corner, he would go on to battle with the front runners throughout the race and would cross the line taking home a fourth place position while Buckwalter maintained a top ten position in sixth. Hogg continued his forward drive making up positions and would place twenty first.   Read Full Story on EKN.
