The Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 25 is officially underway outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Following a full day of practice on Wednesday, the over 570 entries in 10 categories completed the lead up with the final two rounds of testing before competitors went all in for qualifying. The day was full of sunshine and slightly warmer feel then on Wednesday with less of a wind. That was until the sun set behind the Rio building and the lights on the Vegas strip began to shine that temperature continued to drop with the final laps of qualifying contested. The two headline categories in the afternoon group, along with six of the classes were led by international drivers in the timed qualifying sessions, with Pedro Hiltbrand and Evan Giltaire earning the B.R.M Chronographes timepieces in Pro Shifter and X30 Senior.
The first category to hit the track was the KA100 Junior division by Think60.org. The fifth and final lap of the session was the money circuit with nearly every driver in the 67-kart field posting their quick time on the last lap. Steven Miller (CDR / Alonso Kart) was able to edge out Max Garica (MPG / Kart Republic) by four thousandths of a second. Christian Cameron (AKR / Tony Kart) and Max Taylor (RPG / Kosmic) were all within 56 thousandths of Miller’s time. Ernesto Rivera (RPG / Kosmic) rounded out the fast five with SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jesus Vasquez Jr. (Nash / EOS) back in 10th. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |

The X30 Senior category is the first half of the headline categories at Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 25. The top single-speed division at the SuperNats will feature a $25,000 purse, the largest ever presented for the category. The driver to claim the top step of the podium on SuperSunday will earn a $15,000 payday for one of the largest payouts to a SuperNationals winner in the class.
SuperNationals 25 will be the 19th time a Senior level ‘TaG’ category has been offered at the Las Vegas event for the organization. The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino welcomed TaG Senior in 2003, and the category stuck with the ‘Touch & Go’ craze building from there on. It was in 2008 in the first return to the Rio after running three years at Sam Boyd Stadium that TaG Senior welcomed its largest field at 95 drivers. Shifterkart racing was the basis of the Superkarts! USA organization when it began in the 1990s. The thrill and speed of six-gear machines an inch off the ground drew the attention gearheads across the country. The growth eventually led to a gathering in Las Vegas that would become the SKUSA SuperNationals.
From the opening event in 1997, history was made with three classes competing, all around the gearbox engine platform. The legendary status was established with Alex Barron the first name etched in history. Darren Elliott, Memo Gidley and Scott Speed joined as the four founding winners of the SuperNationals in the headline division of S1. The shifterkart craze expanded, bringing on the need for a SuperPro category to take the spotlight. Ron White, Wesley Boswell, Jason Bowles, Lorenzo Mandarino and Gary Carlton became the next names on the list as the top North American shifterkart drivers of their time. It was in 2007 with the welcoming of the factory drivers from Europe that opened the SuperNationals to the international stage. The KA100 Senior division – featuring 74 entries – is set for its fourth edition at the SKUSA SuperNationals, and it will also welcome a fourth different winner. None of the three former victors will be competing at SuperNationals 25, including defending winner Brandon Lemke. Inaugural winner Steven Barros was ‘one-and-done’, Pauly Massimino is competing in X30 Senior only, and Lemke has elected not to defend his victory from 2021.
In fact, the top-10 will look a lot different this year with only three drivers returning from last year’s finishing order. The lone podium finisher coming back is Nicholas Terlecki (Franklin / Exprit), who placed third in his Senior debut at the SuperNationals. Double SummerNationals winner Oliver Calvo (SCR / Redspeed) finished eighth in his second year in the category a year ago. Those wins put Calvo fifth in the SKUSA Pro Tour championship chase. Caleb Shrader (RPG / Kosmic) finished ninth at SuperNationals 24 in his Senior debut and has been among the top 100cc drivers all season long in 2022 finishing fourth in the SKUSA Pro Tour standings. SKUSA SuperNationals 25 will mark the 19th time for a Master category in the ‘TaG’ engine platform at the Las Vegas event. It all began in 2003 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino as the organization welcomed the class reserved for the elder drivers in the ‘Touch & Go’ machines. The division carried momentum each year, and eventually became one of the first to sell out once registration began. The X30 Master class was expanded past the 44-driver mark in 2016, however, reverted to just 44 in 2021 with numbers shrinking over at the SKUSA Pro Tour.
