The ‘Top Gun’ of karting, featuring the best of the best, is without a doubt the KZ division. Lighting fast, utilizing the highest advancements in technology for the sport, with drivers who dazzle us with deep braking overtakes. The fences and grandstands are always packed with spectators for every KZ session at the SuperNationals and 2017 will be no different. A nearly sold-out field of 38 drivers will test the limits of their machines, and each other, to claim the $10,000 check for first place. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The end of the 2008 racing season marked the return of the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals to the Rio Hotel Masquerade parking lot after a four-year stint at the Sam Boyd Stadium. The ‘TaG’ explosion was in full effect, and SKUSA had opened up the entries for the category. At first, the numbers were expected to be over the 100-driver mark, but in the end, a total of 95 were logged when the official sessions took place. Now, for the 2017, that record may be topped if all 96 of the pre-registered drivers arrive in Vegas for SuperNationals 21. SKUSA opened the door for more than the scheduled 88 as in year’s past, as last minute cancellations have always kept the field from being sold out. This year, the organization put in a buffer to make sure 88 was reached with eight extras still on the driver list heading into SuperNats week. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The last race on the SuperSunday main event schedule is the S1 Pro Stock Honda division. The S1 category began as the premier division for Superkarts! USA and at the inaugural event in 1997, Alex Barron earned the first ever SuperNationals victory. The organization went through changes, as did the sport, before the SKUSA Pro Tour re-ignited top-level karting in North America. S1 has provided the Honda CR125 engine with a platform to be in the spotlight, featuring the best shifterkart drivers from the USA, Canada and around the world fighting for a spot in the history books. This year’s field holds three former class winners, in addition to six former SKUSA Pro Tour champions, other former winners of the SuperNationals, and a two-time karting world champion. The S2 Semi-Pro Stock Honda category was dropped down to a 44-driver grouping last year, after welcoming larger fields at the Rio, to open the opportunity for expansion in the X30 Master division and the addition of the Micro Swift class. Despite the lower total numbers, the racing in 2016 was phenomenal as S2 remains a class that lines the fences with spectators. Last year’s race was highlighted by a dominating performance from Mathias Ramirez, who was making his S2 debut at the SuperNationals enroute to victory. Ramirez, along with three other podium finishers from 2016, graduated to the S1 Pro division in 2017, opening the door for a new driver to become the 12th different winner of the S2 category at the SuperNats. Fifteen years ago, on the temporary track outside the Rio Hotel and Casino, the TaG Master category made its debut at the SuperNationals. The division has continued to grow year after year, battling with the difficulties of engine competition while welcoming top talent from around the world. Last year was the first time that the class was expanded to welcome more than the 44 drivers in a single race group, having been the first class to sell out year after year. A record 66 drivers are registered for this year’s X30 Master division, featuring several former winners and podium finishers, along with some new younger names that may spoil the fun for the older crowd. Over half entered were not in the field a year ago, and 16 of them are under the age of 35. Read full story on eKartingNews.com
