New SuperNats Track Layout Unveiled
Monday, 15 October 2007 17:00

Superkarts! USA has announced that the temporary circuit at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium for the upcoming 11th running of the SKUSA SuperNationals has been redesigned (track map - click on the link in the lower right hand corner of the map for a fully dimensioned view). The new track configuration – which will equalize the playing field for all racers come November 14-18 — was prompted by a surprise construction project currently underway on the road adjacent to the stadium by Clark County, Nevada.

This construction project was conveyed to Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher via phone only a few short weeks ago. “The phone call from UNLV regarding the road construction was a total surprise, but like any other challenge, I tried to see a positive in it right away,” says Kutscher, adding, “Although we have been discussing a possible track re-design for next year’s event, we’d simply have to accelerate the timetable. I immediately phoned my operations director Greg Smith, and we sprang into action.  Our next call was to Rocky Moran, Jr.”

Moran, who designed the popular Moran Raceway in Beaumont, CA, agreed to assist in the urgent project of the track re-design, and the trio set off to Nevada for on-site coordination.  “Rocky is very familiar with Sam Boyd, and has participated in the Supernationals over the years,” noted Kutscher. “He was able to quickly view the blueprints of the construction project and envision an even better layout to our track.  Once we arrived at the venue, Rocky paced off a new configuration right away, and we all worked hard to perfect the final layout you see now.”

The new track layout can only be described as a 17-turn monstrosity with everything from gutsy sweepers and amazing passing zones to a tremendous 890-ft straightaway. What has been created will blow your mind!” Kutscher boasts. “The fact that all drivers will be seeing it for the first time puts everyone on an even playing field.”

If that all wasn’t enough for Kutscher, this surprise construction also temporarily derailed SKUSA’s work-in-progress to earn CIK approval for this year’s Supernats. The construction announcement and need for immediate track re-design prompted another quick decision: Does SKUSA have the time and wherewithal to resubmit CIK approval for this year? “Yes!” agreed operations director Smith. And to that end, he has been working day and night to create the necessary digital simulation package and additional specifications that are required for CIK-FIA approval by the European commission. “We had to virtually start over. It’s been a process that has been extremely trying, but is now complete. CIK approval is now just days away from being official!” To that, Kutscher added, “Stand by!”.

Additional information on the track, including a detailed track map and a revised facilities overview is available on www.skusasupernats.com.  More exciting announcements will be posted shortly.
