Fresh on the heels of the announcement that seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher will be racing at the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XIII later this month, EKN has learned from Rodney Berryhill at Champion Racing/Intrepid USA that Nelson Piquet Jr. will also be in the SuperPro field for the November 18-22 event, which will be held outside the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino. During a phone conversation on Monday afternoon, Berryhill confirmed the 24-year old will be traveling to the States this week to do some testing at their Oklahoma Motorsports Complex along with mechanics from the Intrepid Kart Technology factor team before the event next week.

“We are excited to have Piquet added to our squad for the SuperNationals,” said Berryhill. “With the stellar drivers we have here in the States, racing in Vegas together with the factory drivers from Intrepid Kart Technology in Europe, the Intrepid brand will be well represented with great odds at reaching the podium numerous times.”

Piquet is the son of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet. The Brazilian began karting at the age of eight. Spending eight years learning his craft in the Brazilian karting scene, Piquet took home three championships before moving on to cars in 2001. Piquet recently competed in an endurance karting event at the Monaco Kart Cup and has return back home to Brazil to contest the famous Granja Viana 500 event.

With the confirmation of Piquet, the SuperPro field will have a total of three Formula 1 drivers with Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi running alongside Piquet on an Intrepid and yesterday’s big news of Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher with Tony Kart Racing Team. Buemi’s F1 teammate Jaime Alguersuari was scheduled to compete, however, will not be in Las Vegas.

Again, eKartingNews.com will have complete entry lists with each class preview as we lead up to the November 18-22 event at the Rio in Las Vegas for what is shaping up to the biggest and brightest SKUSA SuperNationals ever.
