The 2017 season is reaching the final stretch as the calendar readies for a turn over to October. That signals the return to the city streets for the California ProKart Challenge as the annual Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix hosts the final round of the 2017 championship. Since 2012, the city of Lancaster has welcomed the Superkarts! USA flagship program and its many racers from around the world to take part in what has now become the largest street race in western North America.

The southern California city of Lancaster hosts a three-day festival – September 29-October 1 – centered around the street race, providing charity and local celebrities a chance to get behind the wheel of concession karts on the very same circuit hundreds of karters will compete on. The California PKC competitors contest Round Six of the championship program over a special Saturday/Sunday format for the majority of the categories. New last year, the S1/S2 and X30 Senior main events were moved to Saturday night under the lights, contested between the charity and celebrity main events, in front of large crowds surrounding the BLVD district.

The penultimate round of the California ProKart Challenge was completed over Labor Day weekend at the Monterey Bay Karters facility in Marina, California. Just off the Pacific Ocean coast, karters from all over the western half of the United States visited the northern California destination area to compete in the fifth round of the Superkarts! USA flagship regional championship. Categories for IAME and Honda divisions took on the course, sitting alongside the city’s airport. The event was important for many, trying to establish better ground in the title chases, while others took advantage to gain their first victories and podiums of 2017.

Pre-Entry Cutoff for Monterey is Tonight!
Monday, 28 August 2017 08:44
I know everyone is busy getting their SuperNats entries in, but don't forget Round 5 of the ProKart Challenge is this weekend at the Monterey Bay Karter's track in Marina and the cutoff to pre-enter on MSR is tonight at midnight (walk-up entries are more expensive!).  Full event details are available on the Monterey Event Page and you can still reserve a pit or camping spot at the SKUSA Store.  The weather will be mild, in the mid to high 70's and Albacore Tuna is in season at many popular seafood restaurants in the area - which means you should invite your friends, family and significant other and buy them a pit pass.

The California ProKart Challenge returns to action for the first time since the beginning of July, gearing up to host Round Five of the championship chase. The Monterey Bay Karters facility in Marina, California on Labor Day weekend will welcome some of the best racers in Superkarts! USA regional racing. The unique course will see racers hitting the track on September 1-2 in the five IAME and six Stock Honda categories, all with championship chases to be defined even further prior to the series finale at the end of September at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix.

The championship still remains up for grabs in the Vemme Kart S1 Pro Stock Honda standings. Three-time champion Billy Musgrave has secured three victories and a runner-up finish over the first four rounds; however, SKUSA Pro Tour winner Hunter Pickett has kept it close. The two are only separated by 115 points heading into Round Five, with Round Four winner Matias Podboj needing another victory to put himself back in contention. Formula Works/CompKart X30 Senior championship chase is still in the hands of defending title winner Nicky Hays. The gap is only 108 points in that fight with Round Three victor Michael Avansino as the lead challenger. Andrick Zeen still has an outside shot, needing more podium success with a little help.
