Looking to build upon the momentum of the 2010 opener, the ProKart Challenge North returns this month for the second event of the season at the Jim Russell International Karting Center. Located on the grounds of Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA the Superkarts! USA Northern California regional series will attack the 7/10-mile national circuit on March 12-13. With the organization’s debut of the new SKUSA Pro Tour just around the corner – April 16-18 – this regional event will see a host of national contenders from outside the area looking to educate themselves on the facility and the MG Tires utilized in all Superkarts! USA events.
Included in the cast of guests for the second round of the ProKart Challenge North program is veteran karting announcer Rob Howden. The owner/publisher of eKartingNews.com was the official voice of SKUSA during its ProMoto Tour days, and now with the debut of the new Pro Tour, Howden will be in California to warm-up his voice for the April weekend.
“The opening round for the PKC North program was good, but we expect round two to be even better,” stated ProKart Challenge promoter and Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher. “With our first SKUSA Pro Tour event scheduled for this facility next month, we have a number of outside competitors looking to grab some extra seat time before the April 16-18 weekend. SoCal, Colorado and the Midwest – they are all coming here and I couldn’t be more excited.” |

 Hot on the heels of the confirmation of the 2010 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour schedule, the organization is now focusing its attention on the opening round of the series – the inaugural ‘SpringNationals’ – which will kick things off on the April 16-18 weekend at the Jim Russell International Karting Center in Sonoma, CA. The newest piece of the puzzle has now been confirmed as SKUSA officials are excited to announce the expansion of their class structure, with the positioning of a new TaG Mini ROK class for drivers between the ages of 9-12. This class will be run as part of the Pro Tour this season, thanks to a support program that has been put together by SKUSA and Vortex, the engine’s manufacturer. This effort will be backed by a fleet of complimentary engines for the first two rounds of the series, motor packages offered for overall weekend race winners and a supported trip to the ROK World Cup for the Pro Tour champion.
The new announcement of the TaG Mini ROK program is big for SKUSA and comes following an extensive research effort by the organization’s technical team, which saw the crew test several different powerplants over a period of several months. In an effort to open the door to all karters, SKUSA went on a search for the correct racing package for the Cadet-aged drivers, eventually deciding on the 60cc Mini ROK – which will be debuted on the national level in 2010 with its inclusion in the Pro Tour and the SuperNationals. It will also be available as a local option with SKUSA’s regional programs, should the support warrant a class on the schedule. In 2011, the TaG Mini ROK will be introduced as an official Superkarts! USA category, both nationally and regionally. This engine has been in production for seven years and has a very tight spec, aggressively limiting the work that can be done. The specs will also be locked in for at least three years.

 The calendar is now set for the inaugural Superkarts! USA Pro Tour, the new three-weekend national series that will take the organization and its dedicated competitors to a new level in 2010. Growth has been the key word for SKUSA over the past three years thanks to the addition of new regional programs – and the continuing development of the popular SuperNationals – and the Pro Tour is just the next step in their planned development. SKUSA is now happy to be able to confirm the completion of the 2010 schedule with the announcement that the first annual ‘SummerNationals’ will be held on July 16-18 at the USA International Raceway (USAIR) in Shawano, WI. The organization is also excited to release the first installment of the Pro Tour prize package, which will include guaranteed SuperSunday starting positions on the grid in Las Vegas at the SuperNats in November.
While the Pro Tour opener at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on April 16-18 was confirmed in the last two releases of the schedule, the second race on the calendar had been originally tagged as a TBA for the venue. During the planning stages of the program, SKUSA president Tom Kutscher was extremely focused on putting a temporary circuit event together for the second race of the series to eliminate the potential for pre-race testing, but when the preferred venue was deemed logistically inadequate, the availability of the incredible facility in Shawano was a perfect fit. USAIR has not held a major national event since 2008, so their track management is thrilled to be able to once again cater to the top drivers in the nation. Boasting a challenging and undulating track layout and some of the best facilities in the nation, USAIR is expected to attract a large contingent of SKUSA regulars and an exciting influx of local talent. A special Pro Tour layout will be determined before the track opens for the new season and that unique configuration will be not be available for racers at anytime before the event in order to maintain the desired level playing field. |

Recently SKUSA released some changes to our Stock Moto program. We have received almost universal support from our partners, competitors and engine builders for these changes. There have been some questions that need further clarification and updating.

 SKUSA CR125 Timing Plate: the optional Timing plate was developed to allow competitors to set their timing to stock settings, as we recently required for 2010. While the reinstallation of an unmodified stock stamped steel plate is also permitted, many have been removed or modified – which makes them unacceptable. As the plate is not available from Honda separately, the only way to obtain one is to purchase a complete ignition. The SKUSA Timing Plate was developed to meet this requirement, and is now available from SKUSA on the on-line PKC store (at cost). Note that by developing this solution, even modified aluminum stator base plates may continue to be used.
