 Important News

Monterey PKC is Cancelled
Monday, 16 March 2020 18:48
Regrettably we must relay the news that the upcoming #prokartchallenge race scheduled for April 4th and 5th will be canceled, based on the Covid-19 mitigation efforts mandated by the state of California.

Naturally, the safety and health of our karting community comes first and everyone within the SKUSA ranks is gutted to say the least. The entire #motorsports community has been turned upside down by this, and we share in your frustrations and feeling of helplessness.

We are working hard to secure future dates and to get our arms around what the future holds for the rest of 2020. We’re all anxious to get back to doing what we love ASAP.

EKN Trackside: 2020 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour WinterNationals – Preview
Wednesday, 11 March 2020 17:27

NOLA Motorsports Park

The 2020 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour begins this weekend as the program hosts the fourth edition of the SKUSA WinterNationals at the NOLA Motorsports complex in Avondale, LA. This year is the 11th season for the national championship, which started back in Sonoma 2010 with the first edition of the SpringNationals. The WinterNationals event was not added until 2017, contested at NOLA the first two years before it was run at CalSpeed Karting in California a year ago. The return to the 1.1-mile, 17-turn circuit brings a similar total of entries as last year’s WinterNats with the pre-entry list growing up to 204 heading into the weekend, all vying to begin their chance at a SKUSA Pro Tour crown in 2020.

eKartingNews.com has been broadcasting the SKUSA Pro Tour since the program began in 2010. EKN is happy to provide full Trackside Live coverage throughout the 2020 season. Xander Clements takes over the announcing duties for Rob Howden, who is in St. Pete for the IndyCar / Road to Indy weekend. Those unable to attend can listen in to the live broadcast – presented this weekend by Leading Edge Motorsports, Kart Republic and the Lockhart Grand Prix by P1 Promotions. Bookmark www.ekartingnews.com/live and follow the EKN social media channels for more throughout the weekend at NOLA.

The focus of the X30 Senior division is going to be all on Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic). The four-time defending series champion begins his ‘Drive for Five’ this weekend, coming off a second straight SKUSA Winter Series crown. At 39 total entries, there are 38 other drivers looking to earn victories on the weekend and end the title streak of Norberg. Brandon Jarsocrak (MDR / Kosmic) has been one of the top challengers over the last four years, ending 2019 second in the SKUSA standings and EKN Driver Rankings to Norberg. Canadian Samuel Lupien (RPG / Kosmic) and Dante Yu (PSL / Birel ART) were second and third to Norberg in 2018, both making a return to the SKUSA Pro Tour this weekend. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The 16th season of the ProKart Challenge kicked off this past weekend at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. A perfect two days of weather on February 29 and March 1 greeted the competitors to the Buttonwillow, California facility, beginning the run for a piece of the ‘pie’ – a $120,000 prize package for the 2020 season. The opening round of the six-race championship program welcomed a number of first-time winners at the season opener.

A stacked field of 22 KA100 Senior drivers – the largest class of the weekend – included a great mix of new series competitors and SKUSA veterans. Dante Yu was able to record a sweep in his class debut. The former SKUSA Pro Tour championship podium finisher set fast time in qualifying with a 52.004-lap, edging out SKUSA Pro Tour National #2 plate holder Nick Ramirez and Derek Morton by a total of 74 thousandths. That was the closest anyone was to Dante for the remainder of the event. He went on to win the Prefinal by over three seconds, before leading all 22 laps in the Final for his first victory. Trey Brown closed the gap in the main event, finishing only nine-tenths back, with Michael Michoff setting fast lap of the race in his third place podium finish. Jacob Yesnick and Christopher Martin completed the top-five.

The ProKart Challenge is launching its 16th racing season this month, and remains one of the top regional karting programs in North America. Superkarts! USA Confirms Record Breaking Prize Package For Upcoming 2020 SKUSA Pro Tour, Totaling Nearly $200,000
Tuesday, 18 February 2020 15:27
Fresh off the heels of announcing the shifter kart class expansion to include KZ engines, SKUSA is also pleased to unveil their 2020 prize structure for this year’s Pro Tour. In a move consistent with giving back to the customer, SKUSA is excited to confirm the largest prize package to date for the upcoming national championship.

“We spent a great deal of time speaking to teams and drivers in the paddock,” explained SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “We asked a lot of competitors what prizes get them most excited, and to no surprise — cash is king. SKUSA will be taking it to the next level in 2020, and we couldn’t be more excited to once again be giving back to our racers.”
