The 16th season for the ProKart Challenge is set to conclude this weekend at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. The 2020 championship chase began at the Buttonwillow, California facility at the end of February, before COVID-19 sent the series, the entire country, and the world into what has been a unique and very challenging year. The series finale is scheduled for September 26-27, contesting the 3/4-mile course in the counter-clockwise direction.

The two-day event allows for move-in beginning Friday, September 25. On-track action begins on Saturday, September 26 with five rounds of practice before qualifying wraps up the day for the eight race groups. Sunday, September 27 begins with warm-ups preamble the Prefinal and Finals to be contested and decide the 2020 ProKart Challenge champions.

Billy Musgrave has a chance to lock up another PKC championship in Pro Shifter. Musgrave leads by 160 points over Robert Heck Jr. going into the finale, and is looking to earn his seventh title in eight years for the headline shifterkart category. Three wins and two runner-up finishes have Vicente Salas locking up the Pro Shifter 2 title before the final round. Kailey Meris will attempt to extend her win streak to six in the S5 Junior Stock Moto division. Meris has swept the action on-track except for one qualifying session in the five rounds, locking up the series championship early. The fight in Shifter Senior is close, as four-time winner Jacob Yesnick has a 30-point advantage over Round Three winner Luca Bortone going into the championship finale.

Trey Brown has nearly locked up the title fight in KA100 Senior. Brown has been consistent thus far, not scoring a victory in the five rounds, but leading the championship by 264 points over Jacob Yesnick. Joey Brienza has locked up his first championship in X30 Senior, as has Steve Martin in X30 Super Master. Nick de Graaf has four wins in five rounds of competition in KA100 Master to have a 276-point lead over Steven Jasinski in the championship. It’s nearly a lock for Billy Cleavelin in X30 Master, with a 315-point advantage in the title chase ahead of Jure Gaspar.

Both Junior divisions have a fight heading into Buttonwillow. Jesus Vasquez Jr. has two wins on the season and leads the X30 Junior standings. The gap is 111 points back to Round Two winner Kyriakos Sioukas, with Logan Toke and Frankie Mossman on the outside, looking in – with a chance at the spot of the championship podium. Two drivers have two wins in KA100 Junior, as Ethan Lampe holds the advantage over Kyriakos Sioukas in the standings. The gap is 38 points between the two as they head into the series finale.

Two wins has John Antonino as the championship leader in the Mini Swift standings. Logan Chambers has zero wins in the first five rounds, but only trails by 77 points – with three-time winner Parker DeLong less than 100 points of the lead. Five straight podium finishes, including one win, have Tristan Murphy as the driver to beat in the Micro Swift championship. Shea Aldrich is the only driver within reach, needing a first victory of 2020 to help eliminate the 152-point gap.

Pre-Registration remains open for the ProKart Challenge finale at Buttonwillow for one more day. The deadline for online registration for the event is Tuesday, September 22 at 11:59pm PST – with the discounted price of $335 for entry and stamped race tires.
