This weekend marks the 10th edition of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals. The event is set for May 3-5 at the Utah Motorsports Campus as SKUSA returns to the Erda, Utah facility for the second time in series history. Formerly known as Miller Motorsports Park, SKUSA first visited the facility outside Salt Lake City back in July 2012 for the SummerNationals that year. The 9/10-mile Alan Wilson-designed karting circuit is named ‘Star Trek’, which will be contested in the clockwise direction – the opposite of the 2012 visit.

The IAME SSE 175cc powerplant made its debut at the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals with two different drivers claiming victory. Andrew Bujdoso mastered the rain on Saturday to claim his first SKUSA Pro Tour victory while defending champion AJ Myers triumphed on Sunday. It was a Croc Promotion sweep of the victories thanks to Bujdoso and Myers, however, the roster has changed for Mad Old Nut Racing operation. Bujdoso remains, entering the SpringNationals as the championship leader by 10 points over Myers, who becomes a former teammate. Myers was released from his spot at MONR and has joined CRG Nordam, making his debut with the team this weekend. Myers brings with him the SKUSA #1 plate, joining SKUSA #2 plate holder Kyle Wick under the CRG Nordam banner, who sits third in the championship chase heading into Utah. Completing the silly season between races, Myers spot at Croc Promotion USA was filled by 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake French. Just last week, Superkarts! USA passed a milestone in its history, as April 16 marked the 9th anniversary of the launch of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. In 2010, the program made its debut in Sonoma, California, hosting the first-ever SpringNationals. The SKUSA Pro Tour has grown in leaps and bounds since those first laps, and the program is preparing to host the 10th edition of the May event. This year’s SpringNationals features a return to the Salt Lake City area, and the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah, to be specific. SKUSA visited the 13-year-old facility for the first time in 2012, then known as Miller Motorsports Park, for the SummerNationals that championship season.
A portion of the $162,000 prize package for the 2019 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour will be up-for-grabs at the SpringNationals in Utah. Another round of Evinco tires are to be handed out each day at the podium, with all of the top-three finishers taking home one set. The combined $5,000 guaranteed weekend cash payout for X30 Senior and X30 Junior is on the line in those two divisions, with a cool $1000 going to the driver with the most points over the two days of competition. Pro Shifter, Pro Shifter 2 and G1 Gladiator are fighting for a free entry toward the SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals for the top points earner. All other remaining classes will have a potential $1,000 weekend purse should the driver entry total reach 30. The chase for the $74,000 in prizes for the SKUSA Pro Tour Championship program continues – including the four 2019 IAME International Final tickets – with drivers at the WinterNationals solidifying their positions in the hunt for a portion of that purse.

A month after resuming the 2018 season, the California ProKart Challenge returns back to action to begin the second half of the year with the fourth event in the six-round championship program. The Santa Maria Kart Track will host the Superkarts! USA flagship regional program on July 6-7. A regular stop for the California PKC program, the 7/10-mile circuit is located near the Pacific Ocean on at the Santa Maria Airport. Championship hunts are in full chase-mode, with the 12 IAME and Honda categories gearing up for another exciting weekend of racing.
No one has been able to stop Billy Musgrave in the Mad Old Nut S1 Pro Stock Honda class at the California ProKart Challenge. The current #1 driver in the eKartingNews.com Stock Honda Driver Rankings Powered by Bell Racing USA has been perfect through the first half of the season. Last year’s Santa Maria event triggered a three race runner-up string for Musgrave, with Matias Podboj scoring the victory a year ago. Podboj is the top challenger in the championship chase at this point. Jake Drew has positioned himself as the driver to beat in the Phil Giebler Racing X30 Senior title chase. Drew leads by 28 points over Joseph Daniele and holds the advantage in the win column, earning a Round Two victory while Daniele has a best finish of runner up at Round One. Canadian Samuel Lupien and 2017 California PKC Junior champion Trey Brown remain in the hunt.

The 2018 season for the California ProKart Challenge resumed on June 1-2 as the program visited the CalSpeed Karting Center in Fontana, California. After taking the months of April and May off for the SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals, racers from all over the western half of the United States converged on the ‘Grande’ circuit that sits just outside the Auto Club Speedway facility, where many of the southern California karters call home. The total number of racers reached the 150 mark, as the series met the halfway point of the championship chase by putting Round Three into the books.
