The Superkarts! USA staff could not have asked for a better launch to the 2016 season than what they received this past weekend when over 200 drivers invaded Buttonwillow Raceway Park for the opening round of the California ProKart Challenge. The evolution to the X30 powerplant is complete, and the IAME fields were strong with a staggering 30 drivers in Master, 28 in Junior and 22 in Senior. The addition of the new Micro Swift class reset the first step on the IAME ladder with 19 pilots, while Mini Swift boasted a stellar 34 drivers. The second season of S4 Super Master attracted a good field of drivers as well, all excited to extend their competition onto the SKUSA Pro Tour when the class will make its official national debut.

Superkarts! USA will expand the growing S4 Pro Stock Moto Super Master program in 2016, adding the sub-category as an official class on the 2016 Pro Tour (Photo: On Track Promotions - otp.ca)
Over the last five years, Superkarts! USA has evolved steadily as the organization continues to spread its wings, expanding to the younger age brackets to bring more racers into the SKUSA program. In 2010, they added a class for 8-12 years olds, which has morphed into the insanely popular TaG Cadet Mini Swift class, and they announced last fall that the category would be split into Micro Swift and Mini Swift in 2016 to give the younger racers in the age group their own class in which to develop. At the other end of the spectrum, SKUSA continues to be the sport’s leader in Master-level racing, and the strength and growing competitiveness in the S4 Pro Stock Moto class has been staggering. The S4 Master Stock Moto class is open to drivers 30-years-of-age and older, which results in a huge gap between the youngest and oldest pilots in the category, as there are incredibly quick drivers in the 40s, 50s and 60s. New drivers hit the 30-years of age mark each year and the level of competition continues to increase with the arrival of new racers. Last year, SKUSA acknowledged this evolution by offering the new S4 Super Master class for 45+ year-old pilots on the ProKart Challenge regional level and the initial support was very positive. For 2016, SKUSA will take this program to the next level, making it an official Pro Tour class by running a sub-category at the SpringNationals and SummerNationals. At the 20th annual SuperNationals in November, S4 Super Master Stock Moto will have their own dedicated race group and full five-driver podium.

Fields are expected to fill up throughout the season for the California ProKart Challenge with six different tracks for the six-round series (Photo: dromophotos.com)
The California ProKart Challenge season wrapped up at the end of September following another successful year and finale event at the growing Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. Just three months later, Superkarts! USA is busy preparing for the 2016 season, expected to be among the best championship programs in the country. The 11 categories this season are similar to that in 2015, with the six-race schedule expanded to include six distinct facilities all with their unique characteristics and challenging aspects that will test the competitors of the California ProKart Challenge.
The six Stock Moto categories will remain unchanged for 2016. The addition of the S4 Super Master division in 2015 is gaining momentum for the second season, with former series drivers looking to make a return to the California PKC program. Five TaG divisions remain as well, this year with a 100% move to the IAME X30 powerplant for the Senior, Master and Junior divisions – for the year as well as for future editions of the series, with Superkarts! USA’s commitment to the engine. The Cadet divisions enter the second season with the IAME Swift 60 engine, with Mini Swift (TaG Cadet) reserved for drivers 9-13 years of age and the Micro Swift (TaG Rookie) for racers 7-10 years old.
