EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 25 – Preview Series – X30 Junior
Saturday, 05 November 2022 14:43

The Touch and Go (TaG) engine platform took the USA karting scene by storm in the early 2000s, but it was not until 2008 that Superkarts! USA introduced the Junior category to the SuperNationals. Since then, 13 different drivers have claimed victory on SuperSunday – including two current Formula 1 drivers (George Russell in 2011 and Lance Stroll in 2012). Logan Sargeant won the class in 2014 before becoming the only USA driver to win the FIA World Championship in Junior competitionin 2015. Now, he’s set to be on the grid in F1 for 2023. Others make this list a very well-established group of former winners, including last year’s victor Jeremy Fletcher, who became only the second driver in SuperNationals history to win twice in the same event – taking the top honors in both KA100 and X30 Junior. Thursday, 03 November 2022 15:39

Cadet racing at the SKUSA SuperNationals was first introduced at the second edition of the event back in 1998 with the 60cc Novice shifter class. That category ran up to 2005 before the organization changed hands. It took the creation of the SKUSA Pro Tour in 2010 for Cadet racing to be back on the SuperNationals weekend schedule. Since then, a new winner in the TaG Cadet / Mini Swift categories has been crowned every year over this 11-race span. A 12th different winner will be crowned this SuperSunday and this driver will add his or her name to a distinct list that includes Formula 1, INDYCAR, and karting superstars. The California ProKart Challenge completed the 2022 season over the October 1-2 weekend, signifying the end of two things. First, the sixth and final round of the Superkarts! USA regional program was contested at the CalSpeed Karting facility. Secondly, the Fontana, California facility hosted its final regional event prior to its closing later this year. CalSpeed has been the site to many Superkarts! USA events during its history, and the final chapter of that story helped to decide this year’s series champions. The backdrop was perfect with weather sunny and warm for the nearly 100 drivers competing over the two-day event on the ‘Classico’ layout.
