Superkarts! USA Forced to Change 2023 Pro Tour Event Venues
Thursday, 26 January 2023 11:17

Orlando Kart Center will host the 2023 SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals

After being announced in August of 2022, the schedule for this year’s Superkarts! USA Pro Tour has been altered significantly over the last two weeks due to circumstances outside of the organization’s control.

As confirmed during the SKUSA Winter Series opener in Homestead, FL, this year’s Pro Tour WinterNationals will be moving from NOLA Motorsports Park to the Orlando Kart Center after recent contract negotiations with the facility went in a negative direction. Despite this unforeseen disappointment, SKUSA is thrilled to have the opportunity to make its debut at OKC, and the event dates will remain the same on the March 31 – April 2 weekend. Immediate feedback from the teams that support the Pro Tour was unanimously positive, as the venue change will decrease their travel costs. Input from many drivers and their parents was also positive.

“To be honest, I’m still pretty floored with how everything went down with NOLA Motorsports Park over the last six weeks, but we were put in a position where we truly had no choice but to look for an alternate facility,” offered SKUSA CEO Tom Kutscher. “An unreasonable increase in what they expected us to pay for the track rental forced us to seek another option, and I want to thank Andre Martins from the Orlando Kart Center for welcoming us to his facility for the WinterNationals.”

Unfortunately, the WinterNationals location is not the only change in the 2023 national racing schedule. SKUSA was extremely excited about debuting at the new K1 Circuit in Winchester, CA, but while the track construction continues, it has become apparent that the facility will not be prepared to host an event of the magnitude of the SpringNationals by the June 9-11 event date. In its place, SKUSA has completed an agreement to head back to the Utah Motorsports Campus for this year’s midway point in the Pro Tour. SKUSA has a long history of major events at UMC, and the racing has always been competitive.

“Like everyone in California, we’re anxious to take to the track at our region’s newest facility, which will no doubt be an immediate crown jewel for karting on the west coast,” Kutscher continued. “But while the track is working diligently on its construction, we simply cannot commit to it being ready for the SpringNationals. We’re thrilled to be working closely with the track’s new General Manager – Mike Smith – and we look forward to holding a few California ProKart Challenge races there this year, and very likely the SpringNationals in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates to the California PKC schedule in the very near future, as well.”

The Pro Tour season finale, the SummerNationals, remains confirmed at New Castle Motorsports Park on the July 28-30 weekend to cap the championship series.

EKN Trackside: 2023 Superkarts! USA Winter Series – AMR1 – Sunday Report

The second round of the 2023 Superkarts! USA Winter Series was run under sunny skies and warm temperatures at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires on Sunday, and the biggest winner on the day was Rolison Performance Group X30 driver Donovan Bonilla. The 16-year-old sophomore Senior driver was in the trenches of an epic battle in the headline single-speed pro class that featured all the biggest players in the sport, and he worked his way into the lead, holding off Parolin USA’s Alessandro de Tullio for the triumph. In the Pro Shifter, the much-anticipated head-to-head battle between AJ Myers (Magik Kart USA/Magik Kart) and super-fast Miami local Alan Isambard (ANSA Motorsports/Formula K) did not materialize after Islambard suffered a mechanical in the Prefinal. In Isambard’s absence, Myer grabbed the holeshot and walked away to the win.

EKN Trackside: 2023 Superkarts! USA Winter Series – AMR1 – Saturday Report
Sunday, 15 January 2023 00:00

After an incredibly successful and historic 25th running of their SuperNationals, Superkarts! USA fired up the 2023 season at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires with the first round of their annual Winter Series. The two-weekend, four-round series kicked off in style with over 240 entries on the books and a perfect day of weather, albeit much cooler than is expected for Florida in January. The opening event on the 12-turn / 0.7-mile circuit was run in the counter-clockwise direction, which is referred to by the best in the paddock as the rougher of the two layouts. Despite all the challenges, Kart Republic factory driver Joe Turney scored a big win in the X30 Senior class, while Alan Isambard (ANSA Motorsports / Formula K) walked to the victory in Pro Shifter.

EKN Trackside: 2023 Superkarts! USA Winter Series – AMR 1 – Preview
Friday, 13 January 2023 10:09

The new season is here and EKN is happy to begin the Trackside tour for 2023, beginning with the Superkarts! USA Winter Series program. The sixth season of the two-event program opens up with two rounds of racing at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires facility in Homestead, Florida over the January 13-15 weekend.

The 7/10-mile circuit will be utilized in the counter-clockwise direction for the opening weekend for the 2023 SKUSA Winter Series. Wednesday and Thursday are unofficial practice with Friday hosting five official sessions for testing. Round 1 is set for Saturday, including qualifying, Prefinal and Final. Round 2 is a repeat format on Sunday.

Two weekends in the state of Florida over the next five weeks provides us with a ‘Spring Training’ for the upcoming season, as the SKUSA Winter Series is the opportunity for select drivers either graduating up a division or finding a new home to work out the kinks and get ready for the busy summer schedule. Entries continue to grow with the pre-entries growing above the 230 mark, about 7% higher than last year to open up the racing season for 2023. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

KA100 Master Driver Weight Waiver
Tuesday, 03 January 2023 15:26
SuperKarts! USA often takes feedback and needs of our competitors to adjust our class structure to fairly accommodate a growing population of drivers.  To further advance participation in the KA100 Master class, we will allow drivers with a racing age of 21+ years old, ONLY if their weight in racing gear is at least 200 lbs. These drivers will also have to race at a total weight of 400 lbs, which is 10 lbs heavier than drivers 30+ years old.  We welcome any feedback on these changes and we reserve the right to adjust them as warranted. These changes will start with the SKUSA Winter Series in Florida.
