The 16th season for the ProKart Challenge is set to conclude this weekend at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. The 2020 championship chase began at the Buttonwillow, California facility at the end of February, before COVID-19 sent the series, the entire country, and the world into what has been a unique and very challenging year. The series finale is scheduled for September 26-27, contesting the 3/4-mile course in the counter-clockwise direction.

The two-day event allows for move-in beginning Friday, September 25. On-track action begins on Saturday, September 26 with five rounds of practice before qualifying wraps up the day for the eight race groups. Sunday, September 27 begins with warm-ups preamble the Prefinal and Finals to be contested and decide the 2020 ProKart Challenge champions.

Billy Musgrave has a chance to lock up another PKC championship in Pro Shifter. Musgrave leads by 160 points over Robert Heck Jr. going into the finale, and is looking to earn his seventh title in eight years for the headline shifterkart category. Three wins and two runner-up finishes have Vicente Salas locking up the Pro Shifter 2 title before the final round. Kailey Meris will attempt to extend her win streak to six in the S5 Junior Stock Moto division. Meris has swept the action on-track except for one qualifying session in the five rounds, locking up the series championship early. The fight in Shifter Senior is close, as four-time winner Jacob Yesnick has a 30-point advantage over Round Three winner Luca Bortone going into the championship finale.

Pro Kart Challenge California Confirms Venue Change For Championship Finale Of 2020 Season
Thursday, 20 August 2020 10:54
After what can only be described as a crazy and unprecedented racing season, Superkarts! USA has confirmed an official venue change for their 6th and final round of the 2020 ProKart Challenge California series championship.

Regrettably, Lancaster city officials have confirmed they will not be able to conduct the popular Lancaster Grand Prix season-ending street race and city-wide festival, due to Los Angeles County pandemic mandates and mitigation restrictions. However, SKUSA has managed to book the final regional event for the same weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California.

“There’s no sugar-coating it,” remarked a disappointed Tom Kutscher. “The Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix has been the highlight of the ProKart Challenge regional calendar for many years. To say that COVID-19 has disrupted this year’s racing schedule would be an understatement. That said, the show must go on – and we realize there are championships to decide and teams and racers that rely on us to conduct and promote top-level events. In compliance with county and state officials, we are more than confident in our ability to hold a successful season finale at Buttonwillow Raceway.”

Multiple Double Race Winners at Recent California ProKart Challenge Event
Thursday, 16 July 2020 17:02

The 2020 season resumed for the California ProKart Challenge program with Rounds Four and Five contested at the Santa Maria Karting Association facility. Teams and competitors of the Superkarts! USA regional program ventured to the facility just outside the Santa Maria Airport and minutes from the Pacific coast over the July 10-12 weekend. The weather was perfect all weekend long and everyone within the paddock complied with the COVID-19 guidelines set out prior to the event. On-track, a number of drivers were able to come away with a double victory weekend as the championship chase becomes more defined heading toward the series finale.

Extending his win streak on the season to four is X30 Master driver Billy Cleavelin. The two-time SKUSA SuperNationals winner was perfect on the weekend, finishing every session in the top spot. Saturday was a wire-to-wire victory in the Final to an 11-second advantage over Jure Gaspar and Jeff Rice. Sunday was a similar performance, leading all 24 laps in the main event to a 14-second margin of victory. Alan Morte improved to second with Gaspar in third. The result is four straight perfect rounds for Cleavelin to maintain the championship lead.

California ProKart Challenge Returns to Action in 2020
Friday, 19 June 2020 14:13

The ProKart Challenge returned trackside on June 12-14 with the second and third rounds contested on the kart track at the Willow Springs International Raceway. Racing for Superkarts! USA had been shut down since the March weekend of the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals in New Orleans, but welcomed triple-digit numbers for each of the two rounds of regional racing program under almost-perfect weather conditions at in Rosamond, California. Attendees followed social distancing guidelines to help keep officials and competitors safe while enjoying the three-day event.

“Nothing can replace the feeling of being at the race track,” stated Superkarts! USA owner Tom Kutscher. “This was just what our staff and the competitors needed after three months of staying at home – or as front-line essential workers. I want to thank our entire crew and racing partners for laying the groundwork to bring us back to the track, providing the optimal guidelines for everyone to follow, as well as those racers and teams who followed them to a ‘T’.”

Monterey PKC is Cancelled
Monday, 16 March 2020 18:48
Regrettably we must relay the news that the upcoming #prokartchallenge race scheduled for April 4th and 5th will be canceled, based on the Covid-19 mitigation efforts mandated by the state of California.

Naturally, the safety and health of our karting community comes first and everyone within the SKUSA ranks is gutted to say the least. The entire #motorsports community has been turned upside down by this, and we share in your frustrations and feeling of helplessness.

We are working hard to secure future dates and to get our arms around what the future holds for the rest of 2020. We’re all anxious to get back to doing what we love ASAP.
