California ProKart Challenge

PKC South Returns to Willow Springs Next Weekend
Friday, 04 March 2011 13:06
Round two of the Superkarts! USA regional program ProKart Challenge South will travel to the Willow Springs International Motorsports Park kart track on March 11-12. Following a successful debut round and first visit to the Adams Motorsports Park last month, the upcoming event in Rosamond, CA is expected to top that in terms of entry numbers and racing excitement. The SKUSA and ProKart Challenge staff will continue to bring their professional and friendly atmosphere to the event, as they welcome new and loyal participants to the challenging 6/10-mile circuit.

A new regime is at the top of the early championship chase in the Extreme Karting-sponsored S1 Pro Stock Moto division. Brad Dunford earned his first ever PKC victory and leads over Peter Abba and 2010 S2 champion Ryon Beachner. Last year’s champion Clinton Schoombee, Ryan Phinny and Phil Giebler are looking to bounce back at Willow Springs to challenge the young blood. Race Liberante scored the 2 Wild Karting-sponsored S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto feature win at Adams; however, Nicky Freytag holds the point lead after round one – thanks to his pole award and two heat wins while placing second in the main event. The Select Shifter/DR Kart-sponsored S3 Novice Stock Moto class is expected to grow as the season moves along, currently showing Sebastian Scaglia and Jessica Sollberger knotted at the top of the point chase with Scaglia holding the advantage with his feature at round one.

The G-Phactory S4 Master Stock Moto category hosted the most drivers of any class with 19 battling for the win at Adams. In the end, Robert Marks completed his debut with a near sweep of the event en route to scoring the main event victory and lead in the standings. Randy McKee and SKUSA SuperNationals S4 winner Jimmy McNeil are the current challengers. Robert Morales and Marc Lewis are nearly even after round one in S4 Magnum Stock Moto, while Micah Hendricks leads Augie Lerch and Luis Tyrrell in the E.U.S.I. S5 Junior Stock Moto division. Howie Idelson swept the G1 class at Adams, and is expected to encounter more competition at Willow.

Travis Lowe is in the driver’s seat thus far in the Tony Kart West-sponsored TaG Senior category. At the front throughout the Adams event and scoring the main victory, Lowe leads the standings over Devin Lindsey and Senior rookie Kiel Spaulding. Paul Bonilla, Ian Thomas and Ralph Bush are atop the standings in TaG Master, sponsored by Leading Edge Motorsports. Austin Dement is the top TaG Junior driver, having won both the PKC South and PKC North opening rounds, and is being chased by Luis Tyrrell and Willy Axton thus far. The Phil Giebler Racing-sponsored TaG Cadet category made its official debut at the Adams round, and is expected to be one of the most competitive categories of the season. Jacob Drew swept the opening round over Noah Grey and Colton Herta. The same players among others will battle once again in Rosamond.

The MG ‘SKUSA’ tire made its official debut at the opening round of the ProKart Challenge South program with many competitors praising the new tire. The specially-branded MG-SK tire is the new official tire for all Superkarts! USA events, and will now take on the Willow Springs circuit, testing its limits and durability.
