The highly anticipated first trip for the California ProKart Challenge to the new K1 Circuit is coming in one week. The 20th season of Superkarts! USA’s regional championship is set to host a double-header event on August 23-25 at the Winchester, California facility.

Numbers for the event are expected to be massive, with pre-entries already over the 130 mark for the Round Four and Round Five races, which will serve as the first ever regional competition at K1 Circuit. For most, it will be the first time turning laps around the new 13-turn, 1-mile course featuring 33 feet of elevation, with its longest straightaway at 750 feet.

“We are thrilled to be heading to K1 Circuit for the first time,” added SKUSA CEO Tom Kutscher. “This new track is amazing, a world-caliber facility, and I can’t wait to bring our racers there to experience a new era in karting for southern California. Our hope is to make K1 Circuit a cornerstone for the California ProKart Challenge – to help re-fuel the fire of karting here in the region.”
The weekend begins Thursday, August 22 with move-in for teams and competitors. Pit spot reservations are limited to one per entry due to space, with no overnight camping available at the facility. On-track activities begin Friday, August 23 with a full day of practice – five rounds for all groups between 8am and 4:20pm. Warm-up, Qualifying, Prefinal and Final sessions will be contested on Saturday for Round Four – with the same schedule laid out for Sunday’s Round Five action.

The double-round weekend for the California ProKart Challenge takes the 2024 season into the second half of the championship chase. Two sweeps in the last two rounds have put three-time race winner Ethan Lampe at the top of the P1 Engines KA100 Senior point standings. He holds a 58-point lead over Jackson Menchu with last year’s Junior champion Keagan Kaminski sitting third. The KA100 Senior class has sold out for the weekend, and SKUSA has begun a waitlist to fill in the cancellations.

A victory at Round Three put Alex Rantala into the championship lead for the SuperSpeed Bearings KA100 Junior division. Rantala now holds a 42-point advantage over Matthew Cagle, with Johnie Stamps a close third heading into K1 Circuit. Daniel Ramirez won Round Three in the Formula Works Mini Swift category and enters the next two rounds as the championship leader. Sebastian Hauser trails by 48 points with Nathan Ramirez currently third in the standings. Two-time winner JohnJohn McLellan sits fifth behind Luis Martinez in the championship chase. Three straight podium finishes is how Hudson Hidalgo opened up the season in Sanner Racing Micro Swift. The Round Three winner leads the point standings by 90 points over Asher Biezonsky with Round One victor Aidan Go in third. Byron Borneman – winner at Round Two – sits fifth in the standings behind Koa Saito.

Alan Sciuto has two wins over the first half of the season in the HRT Driver Development Pro Shifter class. He is ahead in the standings by 80 points over Lucas Weisenberg with Michael Guasch in third. Three podium results for Scott Carvalho has him leading the point standings in the Mike Manning Karting Master Shifter class. DJ Jenkins has two wins in the last two rounds, sitting second with Rod Streed in third. The Nash Motorsportz X30 Master class is led by Tony Rossetti heading into the second half. Three podium results puts him 55 points ahead of fellow three-time podium finisher Scott Nealon with Robert Switzler in third.

Race Pre-Entry remains open for the inaugural visit to the K1 Circuit for the California ProKart Challenge until the online registration deadline of Tuesday, August 20 at 11:59pm PST. As always, a 2024 SKUSA membership is mandatory to register and compete. Complete race and venue information, along with a tentative weekend schedule, can be found at the PKC Event Page. Reserved pit spots are highly recommended prior to the pre-entry cutoff and can also be found online.
