Second Half Underway for Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge

The Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge series hosted the fourth round of the 2025 season, returning to the K1 Circuit. Also the site of the opening two rounds of the championship chase back at the beginning of March, the Winchester, California facility welcomed over 150 entries on June 21-22 for an action-packed weekend of racing. The second visit of 2025 to the K1 Circuit featured a revised ‘Pro Track’ configuration that utilized the D2 chicane and cut-through at turn eight.

The Formula Works KA100 Senior class saw Keagan Kaminski gain a fourth straight victory on the season. The weekend began with Lanie Benjamin becoming the third different top qualifier on the year, posting a 51.583 lap time to top the 43-driver field. Kaminski was back in the eighth spot after the timed session. The championship leader drove up to the top spot in the 10-lap Prefinal, taking the race win over Gavin McCune and Jackson Menchu. It was Kaminski and Menchu exchanging the lead multiple times over the first half of the 20-lap Final. Kaminski secured the lead on lap 11, driving away to a one-second advantage victory. McCune was able to win the battle for second over Menchu to complete the podium. Izaac Gutierrez was right there in fourth, recording the fast lap of the race with Shea Aldrich in fifth.

The SuperSpeed Bearings KA100 Junior division welcomed a third different winner on the season. Alexander Gonzalez made his 2025 debut, setting fast time in qualifying to clear the 32-driver field by over a tenth. Second in the session was two-time winner and championship leader Matthew Cagle, who came through in the final lap of the Prefinal for the win – after Nathan Dupuis led the first nine laps with Gonzalez dropping out of the top-10 early. It was Erik Doan that jumped up to the lead in the first half of the Final before the shuffling began. Nixon Ellsworth was in the battle along with David Ybarra, Cagle and Doan. Ellsworth retired with two laps remaining, while Cagle held the lead at the white flag. Through the final circuit, Ybarra was able to secure the top spot and his first victory of the season. He edged out Cagle by 51 thousandths at the line, with Mateo Calderon slipping onto the podium in third. Doan was fourth with Tyren Scott up to fifth.

Matthew Meech grabbed victory in his season debut in the Mike Manning Karting KA100 Master class. It was Myan Spaccarelli earning his first top qualifier honor of the season with a 53.312 lap time, edging out Ryan Casner. Meech was fifth in the order after the timed session, and worked his way up into the lead of the Prefinal by lap four. Meech grabbed the win over Casner to earn the front row starting spot for the main event. From the pole position, Meech led all 20 laps of the Final to claim the victory by over three seconds. Shane Hawkins drove up to second, beating out two-time winner and championship leader Tim Meyer. Casner slipped back to fourth with Robert Switzler completing the top-five.

A third victory on the season for Luis Martinez was clinched in the HRT Driver Development Mini Swift category. Nathan Ramirez set the pace in qualifying, with the top four drivers separated by 39 thousandths of a second for their fast laps. Martinez was fourth in the session and battled with Ramirez for the lead throughout the Prefinal. At the checkered, it was Martinez with the race win and the pole position for the Final. Arthur Kelly joined the top two, battling at the front in the main event. All three drivers led over the first 19 laps with Ramirez leading at the white flag. In the final lap, Martinez was able to reach the checkered flag first, edging out Ramirez by 16 thousandths of a second. Kelly was third with Koa Saito and Kendall West rounding out the top-five.

The Sanner Racing Micro Swift class welcomed its first two-time winner on the season. Round Two victor Matthew Paciulli set the pace in qualifying, clearing the 13-driver field by over two tenths, including Round One winner Aidan Go second and Mason Brody. The trio fought for the top spot in the Prefinal, with Go coming away with the win. Brody was shuffled back at the start of the main, with Benjamin Monroy taking his place in the fight at the top. Go and Paciulli were able to break away in the second half of the race, exchanging the lead multiple times. At the checkered flag, Go crossed the line as the provisional winner until he was penalized three seconds for blocking. This promoted Paciulli to the top of the podium, Monroy to second, and Go into third on the podium. Carson Bishop was fourth with Brody ending up fifth.

Michael Avansino was able to secure victory in his 2025 debut in the Precision Works Racing Engines Pro Shifter class. Keawn Tandon landed his second straight top qualifier honor with a time of 47.529 to edge out Avansino and Anthony Freese. Multi-time series champion Billy Musgrave was fourth, and worked his way up to the lead early in the Prefinal before Tandon retook the top spot in the final few laps for the win. From the third spot, Avansino was able to get into the lead through the opening lap of the Final and from there, go wire-to-wire for the victory. Tandon ran to second with Musgrave completing the podium in third. Freese was fourth with Anthony White ending up fifth.

Multiple drivers battled for the top spot in the Mega Power Engines Master Shifter class. Kevin Woods led the way in qualifying over the 10-driver field, posting a 48.820 lap time. Michael Guasch stepped up in the Prefinal to edge out Woods for the race win. In the Final, Round Two winner Slava Prikhodko worked up through from fifth to assume the lead from Woods on lap seven. From there, Prikhodko went on to win for a second time in 2025. Woods settled for second with Guasch joining them on podium in third. Round Three winner Volodymyr Borodavchenko and David Jones completed the top-five.

The P1 Engines Spec 125 class welcomed a new winner in 2025. Mathias Coito set the pace in qualifying over the 11-driver field before Dane Idelson came up from fourth to win in the Prefinal. Three-time winner Truly Adams led the first four laps in the Final before Idelson reclaimed the top spot. From there, Idelson led the rest of the distance to claim his first season victory. Adams was in second until retiring before the white flag. This promoted Coito to second and Matthew McCoy into third. Liam Jones and Mason Mitchell completed the top-five. Jimmy Skyers was able to sweep the event in the FZ Master division. Skyers won by nearly seven seconds in the main event to become the fourth different winner on the season. Scott Carvalho and championship leader Jeff Krogstad joined him on the podium, while Round Three winner Tony Rossetti and Larry Hernandez rounded out the top-five.

Erik Doan made it four straight wins in the Nash Motorsportz Junior Shifter division. It was Nathan Dupuis that broke up the perfect season streak, setting fast time in qualifying and winning the Prefinal. Dupuis led the first few laps of the Final before Cadet graduate Troy Ferguson took the lead. He led a few circuits until Doan, coming from the back of the field after a DQ in the Prefinal for being too wide, claimed the top spot. From there, Doan went on to take the checkered flag first for the fourth time this season. Dupuis was second at the line but penalized three seconds for exceeding track limits. This promoted Cadet graduate Brandon Ng to second with Ferguson placing third. Dupuis was classified fourth with Diesel Biezonsky in fifth.

Round Five is scheduled for the August 23-24 weekend as the ProKart Challenge heads north to the Sonoma Raceway. Superkarts! USA last visit to the Sonoma, California facility was the SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals in 2017, returning to the NorCal region for the first time in eight years.
