set for May 3-5 at the Utah Motorsports Campus (Photo: On Track Promotions - otp.ca)
Just last week, Superkarts! USA passed a milestone in its history, as April 16 marked the 9th anniversary of the launch of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. In 2010, the program made its debut in Sonoma, California, hosting the first-ever SpringNationals. The SKUSA Pro Tour has grown in leaps and bounds since those first laps, and the program is preparing to host the 10th edition of the May event. This year’s SpringNationals features a return to the Salt Lake City area, and the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah, to be specific. SKUSA visited the 13-year-old facility for the first time in 2012, then known as Miller Motorsports Park, for the SummerNationals that championship season.
A portion of the $162,000 prize package for the 2019 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour will be up-for-grabs at the SpringNationals in Utah. Another round of Evinco tires are to be handed out each day at the podium, with all of the top-three finishers taking home one set. The combined $5,000 guaranteed weekend cash payout for X30 Senior and X30 Junior is on the line in those two divisions, with a cool $1000 going to the driver with the most points over the two days of competition. Pro Shifter, Pro Shifter 2 and G1 Gladiator are fighting for a free entry toward the SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals for the top points earner. All other remaining classes will have a potential $1,000 weekend purse should the driver entry total reach 30. The chase for the $74,000 in prizes for the SKUSA Pro Tour Championship program continues – including the four 2019 IAME International Final tickets – with drivers at the WinterNationals solidifying their positions in the hunt for a portion of that purse.

The 2019 California ProKart Challenge began its season with the opening round held at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California under welcome sunny skies. The March 30-31 event was the first of the 15-year celebration for the Superkarts! USA regional program, and marked a new change in format that also seemed to be a big hit with both new and seasoned California PKC racers. The action was held on Saturday-Sunday and featured the new Qualifying-Prefinal-Final structure. Portions of the $120,000, the largest prize package in series history, were handed out on the weekend as 120 competitors contested the first of six rounds toward the championships in the 16 categories.

The 15th season of the California ProKart Challenge will be celebrated throughout 2019, with the program set to begin this weekend. The flagship regional program for Superkarts! USA opens the racing calendar at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California on March 30-31. The 2019 season will be one for the record books, with a revised weekend format, a condensed six-round championship with a five-event schedule, and the largest prize purse ever offered up by the program.
Dating back to its origins during the 2005 season, the California ProKart Challenge was traditionally a two-day event held on Friday and Saturday of the weekend. New for the 2019 season is the shift to a Saturday-Sunday approach with an adjustment in the daily schedule format as well. Official practice begins on Saturday morning, with all categories being provided five rounds of practice ahead of Qualifying, which will be conducted at the end of the day. Sunday’s schedule will include a warm-up, with the Prefinal and Final to conclude each round early enough to allow competitors the opportunity to travel home before the sun sets. This new approach was formulated using the input and feedback from SKUSA’s racers and families.

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of operation, the ProKart Challenge today announced an unprecedented 2019 prize package, nearing a staggering $120,000. With the guiding principle of giving back to customers, the awards package for the season will see a drastic shift in the distribution of prizes. The new model ensures more racers go home with more prizes, even those who do not finish on the podium.
After gathering input from multiple team owners and participants, the consensus was clear — award more things to more people in lieu of a giant prize at year’s end. Racers spoke, and SKUSA listened. Superkarts! USA / ProKart Challenge is beyond excited to celebrate its 15th year of competition in the most exciting way they know how: giving back.
