EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 27 – Preview Series – Mini Swift
Sunday, 03 November 2024 13:24

One category that has continually produced excitement and drama at the SKUSA SuperNationals is Mini Swift. The class has been a category at the SuperNats since 2016 and before that as ‘TaG Cadet’ beginning in 2010. Over the course of 13 previous editions, the class has seen 13 different winners. The list of victors includes Formula One, IndyCar, and NASCAR drivers of today.

During that span, no driver has been able to defend their victory. The opportunity now sits in front of 2023 SuperNationals winner Royce Vega (Team Benik). The Texan had a successful season in 2024 that began with winning the SKUSA Winter Series championship along with the USPKS title this year. He finished with one victory and fourth in the final standings for the SKUSA Pro Tour. Vega was scheduled to compete the week before Vegas at the IAME Warrior Final in Spain, however, the flooding disaster postponed the event to post-SuperNationals at another location in Spain. With his return confirmed, this will be Vega’s second start in Mini Swift at the SuperNats. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 27 – Preview Series – Micro Swift
Saturday, 02 November 2024 13:12

The Micro Swift division will welcome an eighth different winner during this year’s SuperSunday. The class made its debut in 2016 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, welcoming six different winners from four different countries – Brazil, Great Britian, USA and Australia. The sold out field of 46 drivers features 18 drivers returning from last year while a majority of the field will be making their SuperNationals debut.

The last three Micro Swift winners hail from the USA – Keelan Harvick, Jackson Gibson and Maxwell Macha. The graduation of Macha to the Mini level opens the door for a new driver to add their name to the historic record books. One thing that can be duplicated is a driver winning both the SKUSA Pro Tour championship and the SuperNationals in the same year as Macha did in 2023. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

Two decades of racing completed in September for the California ProKart Challenge. The Superkarts! USA regional program hosted five events, featuring six rounds of competition throughout southern California. It was another successful year, experiencing tight racing in every category, while the organization awarded over $50,000 in prizes over the course of the season, including weekend and championship awards.

The 2024 California ProKart Challenge was a best five of six championship format, visiting four facilities over five weekends. Buttonwillow Raceway Park hosted the opening two rounds in March and April before the series traveled to the Santa Maria Karting Association facility in May. A double-header weekend in August ushered in the new K1 Circuit before returning to the Winchester, CA facility in September for the sixth and final round of the championship program.

The Superkarts! USA organization is in the final planning stages for the upcoming SKUSA SuperNationals 27. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway will play host to the annual event for a third time in its 27 editions, welcoming drivers from all over the world to Las Vegas, Nevada on November 13-17. The 2024 edition is projected to be one of the largest in event history, featuring multiple classes selling out and overall event total has already surpassed the 500-entry barrier. The sixth and final round of the Superkarts! USA California ProKart Challenge was held over the September 28-29 weekend, returning to the K1 Circuit. The Winchester, California facility sparked up the entry total once again, surpassing the 150-mark for 11 classes in competition. Perfect weather greeted the teams and drivers completing the 20th season for the championship program.

KA100 Senior by P1 Engines class welcomed one entry short of the season high from last month, as 45 drivers contested the final round. For a second time on the season, Jackson Menchu set fast time in qualifying, laying down a 1:03.937 lap to edge out Frankie Mossman by 78 thousandths. Menchu led the first three laps of the Prefinal before the fight began for the top spot. Eventually, Jesus Vasquez Jr. – making his first start in 2024 – came up from ninth to claim the lead and the race win. Vasquez led the first 14 laps of the Final before a charging Shea Aldrich took over the spot after starting sixth. Aldrich was able to escape from the battle behind him for second, driving away to 2.8-second advantage to clinch his second victory of the season. Vasquez held on to second ahead of Keagan Kaminski, Round Four winner John Burke and Menchu – who recorded fast lap of the race.
