The 12th season of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is set to conclude this weekend (August 13-15) with the 11th running of the SKUSA SummerNationals at the New Castle Motorsports Park. A season high of 245 entries over the nine categories will converge on the New Castle, Indiana facility – site of last year’s SKUSA Summer Festival with two weekends of racing featuring six rounds of competition.

New Castle has been the home of the SummerNationals since 2015, with the SKUSA Pro Tour champions decided from 2017 to the present after the creation of the WinterNationals. The ‘SKUSA Super Mile’ course is the layout for this weekend, similar to what was used the first weekend in 2020, featuring the wild ‘ski jump’ section mixing the ‘national’ layout with the extension area. Weather will be an issue with humidity expected to be high, however, rain is not forecasted for the days of racing. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The second half of the 2021 California ProKart Challenge is on the horizon, beginning on the July 17-18 weekend at the Santa Maria Karting Association facility amidst an attractive west coast, cool and breezy weather forecast. Round Four of the 2021 championship chase will take place at the Santa Maria, California circuit with the new standard two-day race format for the Superkarts! USA regional program. Two events and three rounds of racing have been completed thus far into the season, with an exciting weekend planned at the SMKA ‘K’ layout to further shape those title chases.

It all began in April, with the opening round contested at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park before the series hosted its double-header weekend at CalSpeed Karting during the month of June. The lucrative $70,000 purse – including 2021 SKUSA SuperNationals 24 tickets, entries to the 2022 California ProKart Challenge program and year-end prizes provided by IAME USA West and Evinco/MG Tires – await those who continue to battle for supremacy at the California ProKart Challenge.

EKN Trackside – SKUSA Winter Series – Round #3 Report

The expected excitement of the third round of the SKUSA Winter Series did not disappoint, as the racing was epic in a majority of the categories. Run in the reverse direction as the opening rounds in January, the 12-turn AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires presented a new challenge as multiple passing opportunities quickly emerged. Three-time SKUSA Pro Tour X30 champion Ryan Norberg cemented his reputation even further by recovering from contact-filled opening laps that shuffled him from pole to sixth, working back to the lead to score a stunning triumph. In Pro Shifter, MRC’s Billy Musgrave broke through for his first win after point lead AJ Myers (Croc Promotion USA) suffered a rear sprocket failure while leading in the main. The third storyline centered on the masterful performance by Canadian Mackenzie Clark (Prime Powerteam / BirelART), who positioned himself in the lead trio in X30 Junior and then managed the race with precision, moving to the lead in the late-going to score his maiden national level victory. EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 25 – Preview Series – Master Shifter

One of the original categories of the famed Superkarts! USA SuperNationals has been Master Shifter. It began in 2000 as the G1 division and was the main class for the elder gearbox drivers. The S4 Stock Moto division was introduced in 2006 and, for six years, we had two Master shifter categories at the SuperNationals. S4 became the sole division in 2012 and held that spot until 2018. The introduction of the IAME SSE 175 brought back the G1 name in 2019 before it evolved to Master Shifter in 2021. Let’s not forget the S4 Super Master and G2 divisions, as well, for drivers 45 and older from 2016 to 2019. Now, set as one lone category and enjoying the resurgence in shifterkart racing in 2022, we have seen the field grow from 19 to 40 drivers for this year’s SuperSunday battle. EKN Trackside: 2021 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals – Sunday Report

Hannah Greenemeier became the first female winner on the SKUSA Pro Tour with victory in X30 Senior (Photo: EKN)

The 2021 edition of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals came to close on Sunday at the Utah Motorsports Campus. It was a weekend of battling tough weather conditions and fierce fields in Grantsville, Utah with the threat of rain added into the mix on Sunday. A brief sprinkle is all that presented itself, as the winds continued throughout the day. As you would expect on the final day of action, the racing amped up with drivers taking a few extra chances in certain moments, with the results not equating to success. Nine drivers did come away with triumph at the end of the main events, including four more first-time winners on the day – including Colorado driver Hannah Greenemeier who became the first female driver to win at the SKUSA Pro Tour in its 12-year history.

The Rolison Performance Group X30 Senior class saw a lot of drama unfold from start to finish. Saturday winner Ryan Norberg was able to edge out RPG / Kosmic teammate Hannah Greenemeier for the pole position by a mere 32 thousandths of a second. At the start of the Prefinal, Norberg was shuffled back with Greenemeier and Trey Brown (RPM / Tony Kart) able to get away. It took five laps to catch back up to the top-two and when there, Norberg made a slight mistake, making contact with Brown as Greenemeier slipped past at turn one. Norberg and Brown went off at the exit, out of the race. That allowed Greenemeier to cruise to the Prefinal win. Norberg, starting at the back, was involved in contact on the opening circuit of the main event and recorded a rare DNF on the day. Up front, Greenemeier and Cole Morgan (RPM / Tony Kart) were shuffling for the top position nearly every lap. This allowed for a seven driver lead group for much of the race. On lap 17, Hannah was able to secure the top spot with RPG / Kosmic teammate Branyon Tiner coming through in second. Morgan came under pressure for the third position with Thomas Nepveu (PSL / Birel ART) on the attack. Nepveu worked past Morgan at turn 10, and at turn 11, Morgan drove over the back of Nepveu, pushing both off the course and out of the race. Following the contact, some extra-curricular activities commenced resulting in a DQ for both drivers. Up front, Greenemeier was able to put in solid final laps with Tiner on her bumper to the checkered flag for the victory. Round Two winner Connor Zilisch (Nitro / Redspeed) crossed the line third ahead of Jake Drew (RPM / Tony Kart), but both suffered penalties. Zilisch a three-second for pushback bumper and Drew a disqualification for pushback bumper manipulation post-race. That promoted Nathaniel Cicero to third, making it an all Rolison Performance Group / Kosmic podium. Zilisch was classified fourth, bouncing back from qualifying 12th. Rounding out the top-five was Oliver Calvo (LEM / Exprit), up three positions to fifth.
