Who said, ‘You can never go home again?’ In what can only be described as a full-circle announcement, Superkarts! USA has confirmed that the milestone 25th edition of the SKUSA SuperNationals will indeed be held at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino this November 16-20, 2022.
After a volatile 2021 that saw the event forced to relocate on very short notice, SKUSA and the executives at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino reconvened to address the remaining year on an existing multi-year contract.
“I’m pretty candid and honest – sometimes to a fault,” remarked SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. “The thought of going back to the Rio after what occurred in 2021 was the last thing on my mind. But the truth is, there was still one year left on the current agreement that we had to reconcile. We sat down with the brass at the Rio and had a very frank discussion about what had occurred. As many can imagine, we weren’t keen on returning. That said, I would be lying if I didn’t admit that the event has always felt most at home at the Rio. And in fact, with the hotel having been recently sold by Caesars Entertainment, the new ownership was quite eager and enthusiastic to start fresh.”

Superkarts! USA today announced a joint partnership between Rysa Racing, South Florida Karting Club, and AMR Motorplex aimed squarely at helping LO206 racers for the upcoming SKUSA Winter Series. In an effort to promote grassroots competition and newcomers to the sport, the three have combined efforts to offer a promotional pricing entry structure for the second annual championship in Florida.
“We recognize the value LO206 represents to the sport as a whole,” commented SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. “Getting people in seats is paramount to the long-term vision and we have found some amazing partners to offset the entry fees to make racing at the Winter Series as inexpensive as possible.”
The $450 Senior and Master entry fee for LO206 is nearly $500 less than the comparable IAME classes, and still includes Friday practice, Saturday and Sunday races, and one set of Evinco race tires.

Bryson Morris locked up both the KA100 and X30 Senior championships with victories in Round Five (Photo: EKN)
The 2020 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour Summer Festival reached the penultimate round of the unique triple header, double-weekend format at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Round Five was contested around the ‘Reverse National’ course of the New Castle, Indiana facility on ‘Situation Saturday’ as the championship chases were either more defined, and for some, already locked up before heading into the series finale. Wet weather stayed away all day, providing perfect racing conditions for the 12 categories and eight race groups.
Coming off four wins in the opening weekend, Bryson Morris (RPG / Kosmic) was shut out of the podium in both X30 Senior and KA100 Senior on Friday for Round Four. Top-five finishes helped to keep the championship chases in good position heading into Saturday. Morris started the day with a stellar drive in the KA100 class. A pushback bumper penalty put him seventh on the grid for the main event. He fought his way up to third and was trailing the lead duo of Arias Deukmedjian (KSNA / WPK) and Luca Mars (SCR / Redspeed) by 1.5 seconds. Morris was able to reel them in with two laps remaining. Mars and Morris worked past Deukmedjian heading to the white flag and then Morris took the lead on the final circuit at the I-70 corner. Fighting for second behind him allowed Morris to drive away to the checkered flag for his third victory in five rounds, clinching the championship with one round remaining. Deukmedjian crossed the line in second but was penalized three seconds for jumping the start. That put Mars up to second, and Brandon Lemke (Franklin / Merlin) to third on the podium. Terrin Odom (MDR / Kosmic) was promoted to fourth and Hayden Jones (Nitro / Tony Kart) finishing fifth as Deukmedjian fell to sixth. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |

The ProKart Challenge returned trackside on June 12-14 with the second and third rounds contested on the kart track at the Willow Springs International Raceway. Racing for Superkarts! USA had been shut down since the March weekend of the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals in New Orleans, but welcomed triple-digit numbers for each of the two rounds of regional racing program under almost-perfect weather conditions at in Rosamond, California. Attendees followed social distancing guidelines to help keep officials and competitors safe while enjoying the three-day event.
“Nothing can replace the feeling of being at the race track,” stated Superkarts! USA owner Tom Kutscher. “This was just what our staff and the competitors needed after three months of staying at home – or as front-line essential workers. I want to thank our entire crew and racing partners for laying the groundwork to bring us back to the track, providing the optimal guidelines for everyone to follow, as well as those racers and teams who followed them to a ‘T’.”

Late race drama: on the last lap of the K100 senior race, the top five contenders crashed, handing Brandon Lemke the win. (Matthew Fink)
Which race do you consider to be the greatest motorsports event in the world? Is it the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Perhaps, the Indy 500? Or, maybe you favor something more extreme, like the Isle of Man TT bike race or Pikes Peak Hillclimb? I would like to add a lesser-known event to the list of title contenders: The Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals.
This karting event in Las Vegas, Nevada annually provides high speed and high stakes. It is a collection of the world’s top motorsports drivers with varying agendas and equipment. These aren’t your local family fun center five-horsepower karts. No, these are lethal machines that pull big g-force numbers in the corners and high digits down the straights. Speed, history, prestige, and close competition–this race, like its well-known crown jewels counterparts, has it all, and I’ve know this for a while.
Fresh out of college, in the early 2000s, I worked for SKUSA and helped conduct some of the largest events in karting history. SuperNationals is widely regarded as the most prestigious karting event in the world. The race–and SKUSA, in general– have helped evolve karting into the professional motorsport that it is today. I hold them in such high regard but haven’t attended a SuperNat race since 2003. To see if it could still be consider one of the greatest motorsport events in the world, I attended the 24th running of the great kart race in the desert. Read full story on Hagarty.com |
