The ProKart Challenge returned trackside on June 12-14 with the second and third rounds contested on the kart track at the Willow Springs International Raceway. Racing for Superkarts! USA had been shut down since the March weekend of the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals in New Orleans, but welcomed triple-digit numbers for each of the two rounds of regional racing program under almost-perfect weather conditions at in Rosamond, California. Attendees followed social distancing guidelines to help keep officials and competitors safe while enjoying the three-day event.
“Nothing can replace the feeling of being at the race track,” stated Superkarts! USA owner Tom Kutscher. “This was just what our staff and the competitors needed after three months of staying at home – or as front-line essential workers. I want to thank our entire crew and racing partners for laying the groundwork to bring us back to the track, providing the optimal guidelines for everyone to follow, as well as those racers and teams who followed them to a ‘T’.”

As many may remember, with the reconfiguration of the IAME distribution in North America in 2014, we put forth a commitment to freeze the engine configuration for seven years. This coming 2021 racing season will be our seventh year (*after a one-year grace period for COVID-19.) We have listened to our engine builders and customers and will be offering the following changes moving forward in 2021. This introduction also comes in connection with the struggle to get these older models during COVID-19.
Before implementing these changes moving forward we want to remind everyone of the impetus for any such changes. As we pledged in 2014, reliability and customer satisfaction remain our guiding principles here at IAME USA. Any new ideas are in the interest of those two facets, and as always — the motivation for introducing any such change is always parity and value for the racer.

The Ocala Gran Prix circuit played host to the final round of the Superkarts! USA Winter Series over the weekend and crowned the program’s inaugural champion following Sunday’s action on the 0.6-mile, eight-turn circuit in Florida. The new Kart Republic operation earned its first championship after debuting at last November’s SuperNationals, thanks to an impressive four-round combined performance from Lorenzo Travisanutto. The 18-year-old Italian topped the 34-kart X30 Senior category on Saturday, sweeping the day, and then added a third on Sunday to secure the class championship. Fellow Kart Republic driver Brandon Jarsocrak made his debut on the chassis this weekend for KartSport North America and completed the sweep of the mains for KR, winning on Sunday. Musgrave Racing Company’s Billy Musgrave (Aluminos) was the only S1 Pro Stock Honda driver to compete in both weekends, which automatically gave him the title, while Rory van der Steur (FA) topped the combined Stock Honda field on Sunday to win the day and the class championship in the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Honda category. The X30 Junior battle was hard-fought, bordering on reckless at times, and when the dust had settled, Team Montoya’s Sebastian Montoya (TonyK art) used a pair of podium finishes to win the title. It took 746 days before SuperSunday returned as the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 24 was completed on Sunday, December 5 outside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With the COVID-19 pandemic postponing the event in 2020, the ‘Mission Possible’ continued with the venue change just days before the December 1 opening day of on track session. SKUSA pulled off the 20-mile move to the LVMS property and enjoyed the new host hotel of Resorts World Las Vegas, welcoming 483 entries over the nine categories competing for the record books.

Regrettably we must relay the news that the upcoming #prokartchallenge race scheduled for April 4th and 5th will be canceled, based on the Covid-19 mitigation efforts mandated by the state of California.
Naturally, the safety and health of our karting community comes first and everyone within the SKUSA ranks is gutted to say the least. The entire #motorsports community has been turned upside down by this, and we share in your frustrations and feeling of helplessness.
We are working hard to secure future dates and to get our arms around what the future holds for the rest of 2020. We’re all anxious to get back to doing what we love ASAP. |
