There is probably not a more crucial day at then Friday at the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals. Two rounds of heat races were contested for the 10 divisions competing at the 20th edition of the event outside the Las Vegas Convention Center. Thursday qualifying set the stage for Heat #1 and Heat #2 for the morning groups and afternoon categories. It was a time to improve, maintain or possible lose prime positions as the event moves forward. Friday provided the first wheel-to-wheel competition around this new layout, and it has proven to be very excited with drivers finding all the different passing opportunities 12-turn course. It was a cold and windy day in Las Vegas as the stage was set for remaining three days at the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 20. Sunny skies greeted the nearly 500 drivers outside the Las Vegas Convention Center with lesser winds than those Wednesday which forced the cancellation of practice in the afternoon. Those winds kept the temperatures lower, and when the sun set, made conditions colder then we have seen in the past. All 10 categories ran their final practice sessions before ending the morning and afternoon groups with the official qualifying session to determine the starting lineups for the three rounds of heat races.  Read full story on eKartingNews.com

New P1/P2 groups for the morning group have been posted on our Dropbox.  After a wind storm ended the afternoon group after just one practice session, we have adjusted the schedule for Thursday as follows.  The morning group will run as previously scheduled.  The afternoon group will start at 2pm as scheduled but will run (4) 10 minute practice sessions and a 7 minute qualifying session.  As such, the Tire Desk and Fuel Farm will be open later to accomodate and KZ chassis and engine declarations will now be between 400pm-730pm.  You can view the adjusted schedule here.

The inaugural Superkarts! USA SuperNationals was run in November 1997, and the category that headlined that event was the 125cc Moto. Today, S1 Pro Stock Moto is the headline shifterkart division in North America, featuring the best drivers from coast-to-coast. Over the last few seasons, international drivers have found themselves driving the Honda six-speed powerplant – earning four of the last five SuperNationals victories. This year, there are just four from outside North America taking on the S1 field in Las Vegas.  Read full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 20 – Preview Series – KZ

The fan favorite every year at the SuperNationals is the KZ division. Non-moto racing was at the first SuperNationals in 1997 with the Formula C engine package. Canadian Michael Valiante won the first three years of the class before it was removed to allow for the expanding class structure of the Superkarts! USA program. The introduction of the ICC engine package brought a karting-specific engine back to the SuperNationals in 2002, with the SuperPro division moving to a mix-program of moto and ICC engines the following year. Eventually, ICC was the dominant engine package, and continued into the introduction of the KZ engines. The category remained as the SuperPro category until the SKUSA Pro Tour was established in 2010, rebranding the class with the KZ name.  Read full story on eKartingNews.com
