With growth comes a few challenges and difficult choices. SuperKarts! USA hasn’t been a stranger to either of these things during the past few seasons. After several lengthy discussions, we’ve decided on the following changes to better serve our growing customer base and expanding promotional efforts.
Calendar-Year Memberships
Starting in 2018, all SKUSA memberships will be good for the calendar year only. This means January 1st through December 31st instead of an expiration date 12 months after purchase. In order to simplify this transition, we will do the following.
-
If your current expiration date is between Jan 1 and June 30, 2018, your 2018 Membership Renewal will only be $50.
-
If your current expiration date is between July 1 and December 31, 2018, your 2018 Membership Renewal will be free.
In order to take advantage of this offer, you MUST submit an online renewal during the renewal periods described below.
-
The transitional renewal period for members will be December 1st through January 31th.
-
The transitional late renewal period will be February 1st through February 15th. Late renewals will cost $125.
-
Renewals after February 15th will be treated as new memberships.
-
New memberships will be $150.
The standard renewal rate for 2019 Memberships will then be $100, and the standard renewal period will then be December 1st through Jan 15th and the standard late renewal period will be January 16th through January 31st.
CIK Kart Numbers
Starting in 2018, SKUSA will be standardizing to CIK number specifications. This means solid yellow number panels and solid black numbers for all classes, 1 digit for champions, and 2 and 3 digits depending on your class. No more letter designators. Please refer to SKUSA Rule 20.2.2 for the dimensional specifics. Our use of the video marshalling system is the main catalyst for this change, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out the difficulty of our track officials reading some of our color combinations and your custom number panels.

Reserved Numbers
I know what everyone is now thinking, and there is no easy way around it. We will no longer be reserving race numbers with your memberships. Each class will be assigned a block of numbers and when you enter your first race of any series you will pick from any available numbers in that pool. That will then be your “reserved” number for the rest of that series. Thankfully, MotorsportReg allows you to pick numbers in real time. You are likely to have a different number in the Winter Series, PKC and ProTour, so first come, first serve. |

After a successful first weekend of racing at the SKUSA Winter Series in January, SKUSA has carefully weighed the pros and cons of conducting races with and without the pushback bumper. After careful consideration and the video footage January to consider, the California based promotion company has opted to revert back to requiring mandatory pushback bumpers for the February series finale, and beyond.

The California ProKart Challenge 2022 series finale this weekend is set to be the final major event in CalSpeed Karting history (Photo: DromoPhotos.com)
History will be made this weekend during the 2022 California ProKart Challenge event at CalSpeed Karting. The event slated for October 1-2 is set to be the last major karting event at the Fontana, California circuit that resides outside the Auto Club Speedway. CalSpeed announced the closure of the facility coming this December, and thus, the California PKC event will be the final Superkarts! USA event in its long history.
On the other side of history will be the championships decided with the sixth and final round of the 2022 California ProKart Challenge. The ‘best five of six’ championship format will take the title chases to the very end, with drivers searching for additional points in the quest for the crown while others fight to remain at the top when the final checkered flag is waved following the main events on Sunday afternoon.
The tightest battle going into the finale weekend is in the KA100 Junior class presented by Nash Motorsportz. Only two points separate Keagan Kaminski and Charlie Smith with the one round remaining. Smith has one victory while Kaminski has gone winless through the first five rounds, earning four top-five results. Round One winner William Rasmussen is close behind in third with Alex Mercado fourth. Round Four winner Kane Martin still has a mathematical chance as well, sitting fifth. Ethan Lampe is the point leader heading into the final round in the HRT Driver Development KA100 Senior class. Lampe has three podium finishes on the season and leads by 60 points over two-time winner Blake Nash – who already has a drop by missing the opening round. Aiden Kempf is third with two-time winner Frankie Mossman in fourth, another driver with a drop already after missing Round Two. All that sets up for what should be an interesting run to the championship.

Ryan Norberg clinched his fifth SKUSA Pro Tour title in X30 Senior with win four on the season (Photo: EKN)
The Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is reaching the end of the 2022 season with the fifth round of the championship program contested on Saturday at the New Castle Motorsports Park. The first day of racing was held at the SKUSA SummerNationals with warm weather greeting the over 200 competitors at the New Castle, Indiana facility. The racing action was just as hot, with all eight categories featuring close racing and excitement from start to the very end. In the process, eight drivers stood at the top of the podium in their respective categories, including six earning their first along with four championships decided early following the penultimate round of racing.
Championship was certainly on the mind of Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic) in the X30 Senior presented by Speedlab Racing Engines. Norberg was classified eighth as Hayden Jones (RPG / Kosmic) was looking to grab his first SKUSA Pro Tour victory. Jones held on through the Prefinal and Norberg worked up to second but was penalized for moving positions after the commitment cone prior to the green flag. That put him fourth on the grid behind Paul Bocuse (RPG / Kosmic) and Louie Westover (Solo Kart USA). A wild opening couple of laps featured a handful of drivers at the point until Norberg took over on lap five. From there, it was smooth sailing as they continued to fight for position behind him. Norberg drove away to over a seven-second advantage, however, it was reduced to four seconds with a partial pushback bumper penalty. In the wild closing laps, Diego Ramos (PSL / Birel ART) was able to grab second ahead of Jones with Edward Portz (RPG / Kosmic) up 13 spots to fourth in his first race after several months away. Rounding out the top-five was Round One winner Jeremy Fletcher (RPM / Tony Kart), who retired early in the Prefinal. He was up to second at one point in the race, ending up fifth to earn the hard charger by advancing 25 spots. For Norberg, it was a clinching day, earning his fifth SKUSA Pro Tour unofficially.

Shifterkart racing is the foundation of Superkarts! USA, and continues to be a focal point of the organization now entering its 26th SuperNationals event. Master Shifter – or G1 – began at the 2000 event at the XPLEX facility on the south end of the Las Vegas. It had an 11-year run before the S4 Stock Moto division came in for 2006 and lasted until the move back to the G1 name in 2019. Now that the engine option is on the same level as the rest of the shifterkart programs around the world with the KZ platform, numbers have increased over the past two years, now welcoming 47 drivers from 12 different countries to add their name to the record books on SuperSunday.
The last driver on that list is Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia Jr. (Orsolon Racing / Birel ART) – who made 20 starts in Formula One from 2003-2005. Pizzonia was able to dominate last year’s race on SuperSunday to be able to complete the Vegas sweep, winning the ROK Vegas event prior to SuperNationals 25. The 2023 Florida Winter Tour champion is vying for a trio of big titles this season, coming off a repeat ROK Vegas victory heading to this year’s SuperNationals. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |
