The International Kart Federation is the world’s longest standing karting organization, with over sixty years of racing in its history. Having recently joined forces with Superkarts! USA, the new partnership is slowly taking shape to begin the next chapter in the IKF’s long and fabled story.
Superkarts! USA has been working tirelessly with the IKF to close down their previous operations and simultaneously create new local and regional programs that continue to serve by introducing the sport to new drivers. “This all materialized incredibly quickly,” said SKUSA principal Tom Kutscher. “The opportunity for unification came in the midst of our regular SKUSA competition programs, so my staff and I have been working double duty to manage the IKF coming into the fold.”

Diego Ramos held on to secure his first win of 2022 in X30 Senior (Photo: EKN)
The 2022 Superkarts! USA Winter Series closed out on Sunday, February 13 at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. The fourth and final round was contested at the Homestead, Florida facility, which was delayed by lightning and heavy rain during warm-up. After grinding through qualifying, the Prefinals were shortened to catch up on the schedule. And by the main events, the sun was shinning for the last chance for drivers to battle for a win and the championships. Rolison Performance Group driver Caleb Gafrarar stole the show on the day and the weekend, earning victory in all four Junior categories. In the headline X30 Senior division, Brazilian Diego Ramos edged out fellow countryman Matheus Morgatto, who put together four straight runner-up results to claim the series championship.
The Group A Apparel X30 Senior division began with only one driver dipping below the 1-minute mark in qualifying, thanks to PSL Karting / Birel ART driver Marijn Kremers. A lap of 59.814 cleared the 40-driver field by over three tenths. He would only complete four of the eight laps in the Prefinal as a broken reed stopped his engine from performing. In turn, Diego Ramos (REM / Kosmic) shined through on the drying track to earn the race win and pole position for the main event. Ramos jumped out to a solid lead at the start of the Final and eventually was caught by point leader Matheus Morgatto (AM / Exprit). Morgatto was into the lead by lap 11 and Ramos positioned himself on the his rear bumper. It was not until Lap 21 that Ramos made his move, grabbing the lead. Morgatto tried to regroup and make a pass, but was unable to complete the move. Ramos took the victory by one-second at the line – becoming the fourth different winner in the four rounds. Saturday winner and three-time defending champion Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic) joined them on the podium in third with Round Two winner Alessandro de Tullio (Parolin USA) and Carson Morgan (RPM / Tony Kart) completing the top-five. The month of May is here and so is the second round of the 2023 California ProKart Challenge. The Superkarts! USA regional series returns to the Buttonwillow Raceway Park to complete the back-to-back trips to start out this year’s championship program. The 19th season of the series began in March at the Buttonwillow, California facility and during this return, the drivers will run in the clockwise direction for the two-day Round Two event.
The HRT Driver Development KA100 Senior class was the largest of the opening weekend in April, featuring 26 drivers. Texas racer John Burke crashed the California PKC party to steal the Round One victory ahead of Chase Hand and Ethan Lampe. The SpeedSense Motorsports KA100 Junior division nearly matched the Senior category’s grid size with 22 drivers in the field. Defending series champion Keagan Kaminski nearly pulled off a sweep on the weekend, missing out on qualifying before winning both the Prefinal and Final. Payton Westcott and Nico Sarphati joined Kaminski on the podium at the opening round as he leads the championship standings coming into the weekend.

Turney claimed victory just days after winning at the FIA Karting European Championship in Spain (Photo: OTP.ca)
The opening round of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour rocked the Orlando Kart Center on Saturday, as the organization’s national series kicked off with the annual WinterNationals. The intensity was high all day long and the long main events made tire management part of the strategy for the Pro classes. The tighter nature of the 13-turn OKC layout added to the excitement as it delivered close competition and aggressive driving. The weather was ideal all day with sunny skies and temperatures in the high-80s. In the Pro Shifter class, a spectacular battle between Danny Formal (RPG / Kosmic) and Billy Musgrave (Factory Kart) was a race-long affair, as Formal had to draw on all his experience to hold off the Californian for 24 laps. In the end, Formal earned the big win for RPG and OTK. Kart Republic factory driver Joe Turney emerged from an epic fight with five-time SKUSA champ Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic) for the win in X30 Senior, while Aden Levy (Team Tarp / Kart Republic) scored the KA100 Senior after on-track winner Fernando Luque (Tony Kart) was issued a pushback bumper penalty.
The X30 Senior battle was electric up front, with Norberg leading early after driving around the pole-starting Turney in the opening run through turns one and two. Turney slipped back by quickly to assume the lead but Norberg settled in comfortably to chase the leader. After hounding Turney, Norberg would go back by with a nice inside move in turn eight on lap 10, but the Brit returned the favor in turn 10 on the very next lap. Sodi Racing driver Harley Keeble (Piquet Sports / Sodi Kart) had fought his way to third during the opening circuit and slowly reeled in the lead duo, closely as they battled. Just a lap later, Norberg tried to pass Turney on the inside of turn five after he defended in turn four and the resultant contact allowed Keeble to get a run and drive around the outside of Turney in turn six to take the lead. Turney went right back by in turn 12 later in the lap and this overtake slowed the leaders and brought Hayden Jones (Trinity Karting Group / Kart Republic) and Brandon Carr (RPM / Tony Kart) into the scrap.

In the United States, 100cc karting has been the backbone of 2-Cycle racing for decades. The introduction of the IAME KA100 engine platform provided a surge that has helped boost numbers at the local, regional, and national level. The KA100 Senior category sold out in 2021 but has backed down to welcoming 76 drivers competing at SuperNationals 26. Among them are two former winners of the class, however, defending race winner Tomass Stolcermanis from Latvia is not returning.
The winners before Stolcermanis were Pauly Massimino and Brandon Lemke, both vying to become repeat winners in the KA100 Senior division. Massimino (Brandon Jarsocrak Racing / Kosmic) has three starts in the class, winning back in 2019 in a wild ending. He finished sixth and seventh in his other two starts, racing only X30 Senior last year and ran only selected events in the class throughout the 2023 season. Lemke (Franklin Motorsports / Merlin) – a former SKUSA Pro Tour champion and USPKS title winner – has multiple starts at the SuperNationals, dating back to 2012. He contested KA100 Senior in Vegas twice, earning the provisional victory in 2019 after an amazing drive before it was taken away for a pushback bumper penalty while securing the victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2021. Lemke had an up and down 2023 season in USPKS competition, finishing the season ninth in the standings. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |
