Superkarts! USA is pleased to announce this year’s inductees to the SKUSA Hall of Fame. Veteran driver and multi-time SuperNationals winner Bonnier Moulton and long-time SKUSA official and Regional Director Terry Riggins will join the Hall of Fame in the second year of program. Last year, in conjunction with the 20th running of the SuperNationals, SKUSA named its first induction class, which included founder Don Janowski, former president Jim Murley, veteran driver Alan Rudolph and team owner Greg Bell.

“When you look at the 25-year history of Superkarts! USA, there’s a very small group of people who have been involved with the organization for over 20 years,” offered Tom Kutscher, SKUSA CEO. “Bonnier was a player from the very beginning of the ProMoto Tour. He’s raced in every SuperNationals and is part of a short list of three-time winners. Terry is part of SKUSA’s foundation and has played pretty much every role within the organization from driver to race director to regional promoter. These guys are ‘legend’ material when it comes to SKUSA history.”

It was an interesting start to the 2022 Superkarts! USA Winter Series program with the opening round of racing contested on Saturday at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. Rain came into the Homestead, Florida area from the east, soaking the entire paddock and race course. Flooding took place around the circuit and in the paddock. Once the track was cleared, warm-up took place and then racing schedule commenced, all while only cutting a couple laps for each category on the day to finish before the sun fell below the horizon. All eight race groups with nine divisions named the first winners of the season, including many first time victors. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The third and final event of the 2022 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour returns to the New Castle Motorsports Park for the 12th edition of the SKUSA SummerNationals. Rounds Five and Six will be contested on the New Castle, Indiana facility to decide the 13th season of SKUSA Pro Tour champions. The event marks the eighth straight year the SKUSA Pro Tour has visited the New Castle Motorsports Park facility, the first coming in 2015. Each event has been over the 220 mark, including this year’s finale with 222 pre-entries set to do battle in eight categories.
Built in 2003, the New Castle Motorsports Park has been the hub of national and international karting during its first season in 2004. The multi-configuration facility has provided SKUSA with different layouts over the eight years, including the National Reverse layout that will be utilized this weekend. It is the same layout selected for the second weekend of the SKUSA Summer Festival in 2020, where three rounds of racing were held that weekend. It measures out to 1-mile with 16 different turns, and the finish line set to the original location when the facility first opened, right in front of the main building and grand stands. One of the most competitive categories throughout the season and every year at the SuperNationals is Mini Swift. A total of 12 different drivers have been able to hoist the trophy on SuperSunday over the 12 times the division has been offered at the SuperNationals. Among them include a current IndyCar driver (Pato O’Ward – 2010), Formula One driver (Logan Sargeant – 2011), University of Houston football player (Anthony Gangi Jr. – 2012), F4 champion (Jonny Edgar – 2015), Canadian NASCAR Pinty’s Rookie of the Year (Thomas Nepveu – 2016), and a pair of Trans Am race winners (Connor Zilisch – 2017, Brent Crews – 2018).
No driver has been able to repeat victory in the category. That is different this year as defending race winner Michael McGaughy (Ryan Perry Motorsport / Parolin) will be trying for a second straight SuperNationals victory. The Utah driver – making his third start at the SuperNationals – finished the season sixth in the SKUSA Pro Tour standings with a best result of runner-up, however, grabbed a victory in USPKS competition thanks to victory at New Castle and ended the year second in the standings.
