At the heart of every competitor is the desire to win. Unfortunately, this desire sometimes leads some people to adopt a win-at-all-costs mentality, with some engine builders, parents, and drivers willing to sacrifice their ethics and their children's reputations. In turn, this mentality finds a partner and we end up having the nature and type of cheating found in the micro and mini classes last year - culminating in public and worldwide humiliation of child competitors at the 2017 SuperNationals in Las Vegas.

This weekend is the series finale for the 2022 Superkarts! USA Winter Series program, with the final two rounds to be contested at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. Round Three and Four of the four-race championship series is scheduled for the February 11-13 weekend at the Homestead, Florida facility. An exciting two rounds of racing took place in January to complete the first half of the championship program, with the final two rounds to be held on Saturday and Sunday.
The 7/10-mile circuit has undergone some updates in recent weeks, including new curbing and exit sections revised. Following the counter-clockwise direction for January, the clockwise direction will be utilized for this weekend’s events. Wednesday and Thursday are unofficial practice with Friday hosting five official sessions for testing. Round Three is set for Saturday, including qualifying, Prefinal and Final. Round Four is a repeat format on Sunday.
What is considered to be the ‘Spring Training’ for the upcoming season, the SKUSA Winter Series is the opportunity for select drivers either graduating up a division, or finding a new home to work out the kinks and get ready for the busy summer schedule. Entries were higher than the last year for the opening event in January with 220 entries in the nine categories. This weekend, we enter the weekend with 210 pre-registered for the final two rounds of racing. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |

2023 season for the California ProKart Challenge begins on the March 11-12 weekend in Buttonwillow
The 2023 California ProKart Challenge will begin on the March 11-12 weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. The 19th season of the Superkarts! USA regional program visits the California facility for the first round of the six-round championship series. The race will be the first major event within the state on the season, with big numbers anticipated for the two-day event.
Buttonwillow has been a popular and consistent destination for the series, with its centralized location between northern and southern California. The opening round is slated for the national circuit in the counter-clockwise direction, including the popular ‘Spa’ and ‘Le Mans’ section that produce exciting finishes.
The 2023 California ProKart Challenge schedule has been revised from what was originally slated heading into the calendar year, due mostly to weather delaying the completion of the new K1 Circuit in Winchester, California.
“Weather has not been friendly to us here in the southern California region over the last few months, including this past week,” stated Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher. “The new K1 Circuit has had delays in completing their final phase of construction before opening their doors, which we anticipate will be later this Spring. The facility will be a key partner to SKUSA and the California ProKart Challenge now and in the future, and we look forward to hosting our first ever event there in August.”

Introduced to the SKUSA SuperNationals in 2018, the KA100 Junior division has set a new record for the event. Single-speed Junior racing began at the SuperNationals with JICA in 2005, won by Connor De Phillippi who is tied for the most wins at the event with four. Junior racing took off in 2008 when TaG Junior began. Since then, only twice did the class reach or surpass the 80-driver mark. For 2023, KA100 Junior will welcome a record setting 85 drivers competing for a chance to become the next SuperSunday winner in the history books.
Already in that list is last year’s winner Steven Miller in a wild SuperSunday main event. Miller crossed the line second but ruled the victor following penalties, thus unable to enjoy the podium ceremony at the top step. The Florida driver comes in as the SKUSA Pro Tour champion thanks to two victories at the WinterNationals and finishing third in USPKS championship standings. He spent most of the season with Chad Dokken Racing / Kart Republic before the recent move to Nash Motorsportz / EOS. Miller comes in with momentum, finishing on the podium at the ROK Cup Superfinal and winning at ROK Vegas. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |
