The opening weekend of the 2020 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is at the halfway point with the completion of Saturday’s Round Two action at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Perfect weather conditions greeted the competitors at the New Castle, Indiana facility and the eight race groups including 12 categories.

The X30 Senior field put on another great show in what looked to be the first time a female driver won on the SKUSA Pro Tour. Ashley Rogero (Nitro / Kosmic) and Hannah Greenemeier (RPG / Kosmic) fought at the front of the Prefinal with Rogero making a slight mistake on the final circuit and Greenemeier earning the win. Issues on the opening circuit of the main event dropped Hannah back in the pack, allowing Will Power Kart drivers Braden Eves, Arias Deukmedjian and Phillip Arscott to control the top spot. Senior rookies Bryson Morris (RPG / Kosmic) and Luca Mars (SCR / Redspeed) joined the fight at the front in addition to four-time champion Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic). Mars came away with the top spot at the end, leading on the final circuit. Eves put himself into second to pressure Mars. Heading into I-70 corner, Mars ran defensive and Eves took the high line. He held it all the way around the entire turn to beat Mars to the exit point. Eves held on at the checkered flag for the provisional victory. A pushback bumper penalty took the win away, dropping him to sixth. That promoted Mars to the top of the podium for his first victory. Deukmedjian was classified second with Norberg in third. Morris was fourth with Canadian Thomas Nepveu (PSL / Birel ART) classified fifth after Brandon Jarsocrak (MDR / Kosmic) suffered a pushback bumper penalty, dropping him to ninth. Racing is underway for the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 24 at its fifth different location of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Following the qualifying sessions on Thursday, heat races began on Friday with the opening two rounds contested for both the morning and afternoon categories. The weather was perfect all day, with not much of a temperature drop when the sun set behind the Las Vegas mountains to the west. There were no major surprises in the heat races, as drivers finally tackled the temporary circuit with wheel-to-wheel racing.

KA100 Senior was all the Morgan brothers on track, taking three of the four heat races on the day. Both won the opening heat races with top qualifier Cole Morgan (RPM / Tony Kart) securing the win in AvsD by three seconds with Carson Morgan (RPM / Tony Kart) named winner in a red flag shortened BvsC. Carson was penalized three seconds for a pushback bumper penalty, giving the win to Thomas Annunziata (MDR / Kosmic). The second round was a Morgan sweep with Cole winning AvsC and Carson taking the checkered in BvsD. The two will face off in the their final heat Saturday to decide the pole position for SuperSunday. The Superkarts! USA waited roughly five months before the 2020 season could officially begin. The COVID-19 pandemic struck as the WinterNationals were set to begin in New Orleans, cancelling the event the day it began. The unusual situation has put the all-in format for the championship with all six rounds to be contested at the New Castle Motorsports Park in 10 days. Friday was the opening round on the ‘Super Mile’ course at the New Castle, Indiana facility. Qualifying, Prefinal and Final conducted for the eight race groups and 12 categories on Friday, setting the stage for the championship chase ahead. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Trackside: 2018 SKUSA Winter Series – Ocala Gran Prix Preview

Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto looks to steal the Winter Series championship (Photo: otp.ca)

Superkarts! USA launched the Winter Series last month in Homestead, Florida with over 200 drivers in attendance. The four-round championship chase concludes this weekend as the program heads north to the Ocala Gran Prix in central Florida. The numbers may be a bit lower than last month, however, the X30 Junior category was sold out prior to arriving in Ocala, showing the continued growth of the IAME program under the SKUSA banner.

The series heads to the unique Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida. The circuit is among the smallest on the national level, just 6/10 of a mile with eight distinct corners. Facility owner Jorge Arellano has been a big player in North American karting industry, bringing a number of high-profile events to the Ocala circuit. The local program at Ocala and the OGP race team have helped to produce some of the top karters in the last decade. While the circuit may be smaller, the action will be intense throughout the weekend.

eKartingNews.com is going to be Trackside for the finale weekend of the SKUSA Winter Series. EKN’s own Rob Howden will be on the mic as the longtime SKUSA announcer, with all the sessions on Saturday and Sunday to be broadcasted at www.ekartingnews.com/live – presented by CRG Nordam, Nitro Kart and TB Kart USA. Be sure to follow the EKN Social Media channels for images, videos and much more throughout the entire weekend in Ocala. Read full story on eKartingNews.com.

EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 24 – Preview Series – Pro Shifter

Defending KZ winner Danny Formal looking for a fourth SuperNationals victory (Photo: On Track Promotions – otp.ca)

The class that started it all at the SKUSA SuperNationals was the S1 division. The premier shifterkart category at the inaugural SuperNats in 1997 with the S1 division. That remained the headline division up until the SuperPro division was established. It was in that category the engine program shifted from moto engines to karting-specific powerplants, while also welcoming international drivers by the final year of the class in 2009. It was then when the division was split into two with the promotion of the Stock Moto category from the SKUSA Pro Tour to the S1 name and KZ class established. 2019 was the debut of the IAME SSE engine, adjusting the name to Pro Shifter. Now, for the 2021 edition of the SuperNationals, we are combining the KZ and Pro Shifter engines into one category, welcoming the largest class turnout in recent years.

The combination of the two categories into one welcome two defending winners looking to repeat in 2021. History can be made by Billy Musgrave (Factory Karts), the three-time defending winner in the Pro Shifter division. The 2012 S2 winner has four total SuperNationals victories, currently tied with Connor De Phillippi and Kip Foster with the most by one driver. With a win on SuperSunday, Musgrave can put himself alone at the top of the SuperNationals win list. Looking to join him at four total wins in Vegas is defending KZ winner Danny Formal (LEM / Formula K). It was an emotional victory for the Costa Rican in 2019, besting a talented field for his third SuperNationals win, joining his S1 victories from 2015 and 2016. Last year, the two did not run head-to-head. In the five times Formal and Musgrave have raced against one another at the SuperNationals, Formal has finished better in three of years (2014-2016).
