The opening weekend of the 2020 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is at the halfway point with the completion of Saturday’s Round Two action at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Perfect weather conditions greeted the competitors at the New Castle, Indiana facility and the eight race groups including 12 categories.

The X30 Senior field put on another great show in what looked to be the first time a female driver won on the SKUSA Pro Tour. Ashley Rogero (Nitro / Kosmic) and Hannah Greenemeier (RPG / Kosmic) fought at the front of the Prefinal with Rogero making a slight mistake on the final circuit and Greenemeier earning the win. Issues on the opening circuit of the main event dropped Hannah back in the pack, allowing Will Power Kart drivers Braden Eves, Arias Deukmedjian and Phillip Arscott to control the top spot. Senior rookies Bryson Morris (RPG / Kosmic) and Luca Mars (SCR / Redspeed) joined the fight at the front in addition to four-time champion Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic). Mars came away with the top spot at the end, leading on the final circuit. Eves put himself into second to pressure Mars. Heading into I-70 corner, Mars ran defensive and Eves took the high line. He held it all the way around the entire turn to beat Mars to the exit point. Eves held on at the checkered flag for the provisional victory. A pushback bumper penalty took the win away, dropping him to sixth. That promoted Mars to the top of the podium for his first victory. Deukmedjian was classified second with Norberg in third. Morris was fourth with Canadian Thomas Nepveu (PSL / Birel ART) classified fifth after Brandon Jarsocrak (MDR / Kosmic) suffered a pushback bumper penalty, dropping him to ninth. EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 24 – Preview Series – KA100 Senior

2019 SuperNats winner Pauly Massimino back for another trip to the top of the podium (Photo: EKN)

The KA100 Senior category will boast a record turnout for its third year t the SuperNationals, welcoming 92 drivers. During the first two years of the category at the SuperNats, the class was sold out at the capped number of 44. For 2021, the class was opened to provide two time slots in the schedule and the KA100 driver community has not disappointed with the turnout. This year’s field is a great mix of talent, including 13 drivers returning from 2019, 20 drivers who ran Junior that year, six Pro Tour champions, and over half the field with zero SuperNationals starts.

Of course, defending race winner Pauly Massimino is the opening highlight of the class roster. The 2019 edition was decided after the final checkered flag. Brandon Lemke (FMS / Merlin) put on a show, after getting wrecked on the opening lap to drive forward and grab the checkered flag. A pushback bumper penalty dropped him down to fifth on the podium, moving Massimino up to the #1 spot. A lot has changed over the past two years. Massimino has matured even more as a driver, running now with Ryan Perry Motorsport, and he has become a consistent threat in both KA and X30 competition. Lemke is now among the older veteran drivers at 21, but is still showing like a championship driver. It was six years ago that he won the SKUSA Pro Tour TaG Junior crown at the SuperNationals. For both, it will be about earning what is theirs. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

The 2019 edition of the California ProKart Challenge came to a close at the end of September, wrapping up an astonishing 15th season for the Superkarts! USA regional program. The season was made up of five events, including six rounds of racing toward the championship program for the 17 categories. The year began in Buttonwillow and was followed up by the first double-round weekend at CalSpeed. Trips to Monterey and Santa Maria began the second half of the season before completing the year at the 11th edition of the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. Those able to claim a championship or finish top-three in the standings will be honored at the California ProKart Challenge Awards Banquet on October 26.

For the sixth time in seven years, the Croc Promotion USA/Mad Old Nut Pro Shifter category will recognize Billy Musgrave as the series champion — a win streak carried over from 2018 with six wins last season. Musgrave continued that through much of the season, winning the first five rounds before placing second in his Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix title defense. The five victories in 2019 was good enough to give Musgrave his sixth series championship. Jake French, the 2019 SOLGP victor, ended the year in second, with Cody Hodgson in third.
