The final round of the 2024 Superkarts! USA Winter Series was completed on Sunday at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. The second of two weekends to open up the season for the organization wrapped up its time at the Homestead, Florida facility, welcoming over 200 entries in the nine categories. Weather was perfect until the main events began with a quick rain shower hitting the circuit to dampen things up for the first four race groups before the dry line was formed enough to put back on dry tries. The action on the day helped to decide this year’s champions in a best three of four format with most coming down to the final laps.
The X30 Senior presented by SpeedLab Racing Engines saw the aggression amp up with drivers knowing this was their final shot at a victory, or to further increase their chances of landing on the championship podium. Steven Miller (AM / Exprit) found speed overnight to claim the top spot in qualifying with a 47.672. He cleared Saturday winner Donovan Bonilla (RPG / Kosmic) by just 28 thousandths. Bonilla however was the quickest driver in the Prefinal, working his way up to the point and taking the victory by over a half second ahead of Miller. The start of the Final however cost Bonilla a chance at the championship as contact sent him around in turn two, dropping him outside the top-20. The scramble allowed for Canadian Thomas Nepveu (Trinity / Kart Republic) along with teammate Brandon Carr (Trinity / Kart Republic) and Round Two winner Alessandro de Tullio (Inter MS / Kart Republic) to run 1-2-3. They locked together and got away from the fight that was for fourth. Nepveu led the majority of the race until de Tullio took over the point on lap 17. He led until Carr grabbed the spot coming to the white flag. A defensive line into the first turn pushed him wide and de Tullio got a run on the inside. Nepveu got a run on both, and pushed Carr ahead just enough to clear de Tullio into the second turn from the outside. As Carr jumped back into the lead, de Tullio and Nepveu fought for position, allowing Round One winner Ryan Norberg (RPG / Kosmic) and Dalton Hanes (Piquet / Sodi Kart) to close in. Carr took the advantage and held on through the final corners to secure his first Senior victory. De Tullio held on for second over Nepveu with Norberg and Hanes trailing at the line. Bonilla worked his way up to 12th, but it was not enough as de Tullio would be crowned champion with Norberg third on the championship podium.
